I just purchased a abitic7-g max 2 and p4 2.6g cpu, Now I am wondering about the ram
I pretty much am looking at a corsair 1g pc2700 from what I have read this will work well? As will the 2300 ddr400 which direction will be best and is there going to be much noticable benifit to putting more than 1 gig of ram?
I have never overclocked a board b4 but was told that this set up has really good potential
and I would like to pursue doing this to get the biggest bang and fastest operationand execution
I am not much into the gaming but do like to do alot of multitasking and am looking for a good video responce.
Basicly I am not wanting to see any lag in whatever I decide to do with this pc.
Thanks for any help!

Is this a 2.6c(800mhz FSB)? If you are using an 800mhz FSB CPU, you definatly want to get DDR400, rather than PC2700, as the PC2700 would starve that CPU since P4's are very bandwidth hungry. If it's a 2.66 533fsb chip, then PC2700 would be fine. You heard right about that board being one of the best for overclocking. Depending on how much you want to spend on ram, and if you are using something other than the stock cooler, PC4000 (500mhz DDR) would be good for overclocking. That way you could go as high as 250mhz(1000mhz effective) FSB and not have to worry about the ram limiting you. 1GB of ram is probably enough, depending on what programs you use, 2gig would help some with rendering, or video encoding.

thank you for your knoledge on this.
I have not recieved the board an chip yet. It is in shipping.
I bought it used and it is suppossed to be in perfect condition and never have been overclocked. I have ask the seller if it is 800 or 533 an not had a reply yet.
I was assuming it was 800!!!!!!!!!!! hmmmm hopfully that is the case.
Thanks! Once I find out for sure I will post. I am going to need a little schooling on the overclockig also so thanks for your help!

I was looking at ram and found
1Gb DDR PC4000 500MHz OVERCLOCKED GAMING MEMORY {USMODULE BRAND}Is this a decent brand? If so there is not to much cost difference I plan on 2 of these will this compliment regaurdless of the 533 or 800mhz p4?
Thanks

PC4000 will be good for overclocking weather it's 533mhz FSB or 800mhz FSB. Hopefuly it is 800mhz FSB as hyperthreading can make a very big differance at times(up to about 20% for some programs), and makes the whole system feel a lot smoother. My P4's I have had without hyperthreading feel really sluggish at times. A 2.6c(800mhz fsb) can probably get 3.2ghz pretty easily if it's cooled well. I think there is also a 2.6ghz prescott version with 533mhz FSB and no hyperthreading as well, the northwood is prefferable at 533mhz FSB.

Finally got the info from seller It is a 800mhz p4 2.6c!!!!!!!!!!!
Had me a little worried. lol
So I think after reading, a very good choice in ram will be
Corsair Memory XMS Extreme Memory Speed Series (twinx1024-4000pro) 500 MHz. Bus Clock Rate Random Access Memory!!
Does this sound like I am going in the right dirrection?
Also the cpu has a high end copper cooler and fan on it.
From what I read this chip and ram set up will clock to 275mhz fsb or 3.575ghzprocessor fairly easy.
Sounds pretty good to me.
Does this info sound correct? And your input on the ram.
Thanks again

It's quite possible, but overclocks do varry so don't get to disappointed if you don't get quite that high. PC4000 will allow you to run 1:1 up to 250mhz FSB, so that would put you at 3250mhz which is still a decent overclock, and with a good cooler I don't think it will be too much of a problem. My 2.4c got to 3.1ghz easy enough, so I figure you can get 3.2 pretty easily with a 2.6c. Have fun!
