im looking at processors on the web and i was wondering what the difference was between these two processors.

INTEL PENTIUM III 1GHz 133MHz FSB FCPGA PROCESSOR -OEM Version. 256K Model# $114.00

Intel Pentium III 1GHz 256K 133MHz FSB Socket 370 FC-PGA2 Processor - Retail Box with Heatsink $114.00


what is FC-PGA2, there both the same price, which one should i get for some good smp.

The FCPGA2 is the next version of the PIII - it is called the "Tualitin" or however it is spelt.
You cannot use this CPU iin you're VP6. (Intel Pentium III 1GHz 256K 133MHz FSB Socket 370 FC-PGA2 Processor - Retail Box with Heatsink $114.00)


you need to get the first one you listed.

According to this Intel PIII Info page, the FC-PGA2 has an integrated heat spreader, where the other one you listed does not. So, IMO, either of the 1Ghz chips you have listed above should work. The Tualatin line starts at 1.133Ghz, BTW.

The Tualitin is a different chip and without a BIOS upgrade form his mobo manufacturer it wont work.
I am sure they could come out with an update so that the board recognizes the chip, but that would cut into the chance of you buying a new board....
