ABIT Undervolt?

I LOVE my new Gigabyte P35-DS4 Rev2.0. It allows easy overclocking my Q6600 to 3.0ghz while undervolting to 1.225Vc. VID is 1.2625Vc. And even more impressive is running at stock 2.4ghz while undervolting to 1.0Vc. VERY cool and quiet!

My previous experience with ABIT mobo was very good. HOWEVER, they don't seem to allow UNDERVOLTING. The forums are full of high recommendations for ABIT IP35-E and Premium.

Do these latest P35 chipset BIOS allow UNDERVOLTING? I think ABIT builds great mobos but their BIOS are weak, particularly in this category.

Abit uses the VID for default voltage. Enabling C1E and EIST will further reduce voltage set in BIOS by about 0.16V when PC is idling. This will result in an additional drop of 3 to 5C (idle).

Have you tested CPU stability with Orthos or S&M? 1.225 may be a tad low for 3.0GHz.

Use auto fan speed control to lower the fan's rpm when PC is idling. Maximum core temp should not exceed 40C idle with a good CPU cooler.

Many many hours of OCCT and Orthos and Prime lead me to 1.225. I use stock 2.4ghz most of the time with C1E and EIST enabled. I also undervolt my Ballistix to 1.8V from stock 2.2V. My bios keeps fans almost inaudible. I like cool and QUIET at 2.4ghz. With 25C ambient I idle at 30-32C at 1.6ghz. Running full speed at 2.4ghz, heat rises to 39-41C. Using latest Coretemp. The Ninja Rev A is amazing cooler when coupled with silent Scythe 120mm fan running 680rpm.

So, ABIT still sucks bigtime when it comes to undervolting. Using VID as MINIMUM voltage when these beautiful fantastic Intel machines can run stable at stock voltage at 1.0Vc (or less!) ...which means COOL!! Well, ABIT is missing the boat on their Bios voltages, for sure. If I had to run VID as minimum, I could always run 3.2ghz...but it would not be silent! I'd rather have a silent machine.

C2D is designed for safe operation to at least 60C core temp. The Big Typhoon with 120mm @ 1300 rpm is whisper quiet. This cooler is virtually inaudible at 0.5 meter. You can even undervolt the fan to 800 rpm if CPU core speed is under 3.0GHz.

If you're already running C1E and EIST, then I don't see a big deal between 1.1 vs 1.06Vcore. Heat and noise should not be an issue at either setting. The only benefit will be a few less watts drawn from the AC plug.

The majority of overclockers want to achieve a balance between noise and speed...dead silent at 2.3GHz, and a mild hum at 3.5GHz. Any high-performance CPU cooler will be able to keep the noise level under 25dBA with only 3.0GHz core speed.
