Abit SR7-8X and overclocking

I'm new to this overclocking business, so go easy on me please. 🙂

So I have an old motherboard.... Anyhow, I have an ABIT SR7-8X Mobo, a P4 2.4B, and 1gig of PC2700 Kingston Ram. I've got it pretty steady at 2.88 with a 160FSB and ratios of 4:4:2:1. Vcore is set a normal (1.49/ 1.5). I can get the FSB up to about 162, but anything above that, it won't even boot up. And at 162, I can only play SOF2 for about 5 minutes before it crashes. 2.88 is solid. Any advice on improving the numbers? I've played with the voltage to 5% and 10%, and messes with the ratios at 4:3:2:1. Should I mess with the vddr control?

Also, AGP/PCI frequency....Pros? Cons? Set a 66Mhz, but have had it to the up 80. Will this vaporize my video card?

Abit SR7-8X
P4 2.4B oc'd to 2.88 solid
GF2TI4200 (128MB)
1 GIG PC2700 Ram (Kingston)
P.O.S Sound card Creatvie PCI 128 (Audigy Platinum inbound)
40 Gig 7200 HD
60 Gig 7200 HD
SCSI Yamaha CD-R/RW
Toshiba DVD
Internal IDE Zip
Antec Case
7 Antec Case Fans
Vantec Aeroflow CPU Fan (5600 RPM's)

Thanks.

160 fsb for that board is outstanding. I would leave it alone. Without an agp/pci lock, you'll experience instability by going higher.

Cool, thanks for the info. I've been running the AGP at 80Mhz without any problems. I suppose I could put the lock on to extend the life of my card, however, I think I'm going to upgrade it soon....so maybe I'll leave it as it is now.

I agree this is pretty average for sis648 chipset ppl with the abit being one of the better ocers....

careful though as 80mhz agp means 40mhz pci and that is often very hard on harddrives....could eventually cause data corruption and hardware failure at little warning...

Duvie, thanks for that bit of info. As of yesterday night, started getting the BSOD every so often. Thought it might have been the new sound card I put in, but it's probably the PCI bus speed. Think I'll lock it.
