Hi

I was wondering if anyone can help me, My agp abit siluro fx5200 128mb 8x card is very hot within minutes of switching the machine on. I found out that my case was getting hot than I checked that the heatsink on the VGA card is extremely HOT. what could be wrong?

Thanks in advance
Mash

Maybe you should install a fan OR, maybe the card is simply faulty. A Siluro GF2 MX produced this problem in my case the next day I bought it. I went back to the shop, and exchanged it.

If the system doesn't lock-up or produces strange graphics, it might be normal to run hot, especially if it doesn't have a cooling fan. If you want to keep the card, you might want to buy a Vantac Iceberq 4 Pro heatsink/fan for it. I recently read a review of the HSF where it was used on a FX5200. You should be able to find the review by doing a search for the Vantec HSF I mentioned; it is spelled with a "Q" not a "G".

Here is the LINK to the FX 5200 using the Iceberq 4. It looks like he didn't use the pro version though. You would have to check the size for which one would fit.

Here is another LINK that has the specs for the mounting hole spacing and diameter.

I have a GF4 Ti4200, and its the hottest thing in my computer. My CPU runs at 42 celcius, and I can touch the cpu heatsink with no problems. But I burn my finger if I touch the vidcard underneath (right under the gf4 chip). But system is stable, and games run fine. So I'm not that worried about it. I would like to put a bigger hsf on it though...

I got my Iceberq 4 Pro today and installed it on my Gainward Ti4200 GS; the Gainward fan just up and died! Anyway, the Iceberq is essentially the same as the original Gainward HSF except that the gainward unit is made of aluminium and the Iceberq is copper. A touch test on the back of the GPU appears to be a little cooler with the Iceberq, but this is only a best guess. The Iceberq Pro fit perfectly and is a nice high quality unit, even providing goop and Ram sinks in the kit. The blue lights in the Iceberq add a nice touch. The Iceberq 4 Pro looks good, seems to perform well and is real quiet. I would suggest this HSF if you need a replacement.
