Abit Siluro Ti200 Running too hot?

Hi all,

I have a Siluro GF3 Ti200, bt the active cooling seems a little lame. I can only get 240-245 out of the core without Artifacts in 3DM2K1, to get a 7700 score.

The Memory only goes to 450 without artifacts and i think this is due to heat leakage from the core. The back of the card of roasting hot to touch, leading me to believe the HSF aint doing all that much.

The HSF is only luke-warm to the touch.

I have a 40CFM Ball bearing fan intake at the front, same at the back, slot exhaust fan and an Enermax 350W PS with it's usual 2 fans.

NB: Anyone with an Enermax may have found they get a hot spot at the top of their case in front of the PSU. This is due to leakage thru the slots in the PSU inside the case. These leak when the air from the lower fan is running faster than the outtake. I have resolved this by sealing these slots, thus allowing the temp governed fans to take up the extra heat created in the PSU. Hot spot now gone!

Case is GW802 (Of course!) Other Specs in sig.

I have the same issue. But I think your numbers are incorrect. CPU Core default is 175 so you going to 245-250 would not work. The most I've seen done is 220. I can only get 220-430 outta my card. Thats 220 CORE 430 Memory. It may be heat related.

My numbers are spot on, my core does 245 stable over stock 175. A 40% core OC! Capped with a 50% CPU OC (I've done this before...) Throtle back to 240 most of the time. Memory does 450 Rock, but seen Siluro's do 500+ very often.

Check my sig for details, this is no n00b rig. Check the 3dmark score (7700), you won't get that out of many GF3 Ti200's on this CPU.

The core clock is not an issue. My problem is heat not being lost from the core causing heat spread issues with the mem. I'm probably going to pull it apart and extreme it with ASE and a TT cooling kit, maybe crystal orb or similar. Anyone got any advice on extreme GF3 cooling?

A crystal orb should be good, but I'd think it will improve your core cooling mostly. I guess the stronger fan will help push a lot more hot air away from the card in general. That's weird about your memory. I can push my MSI GF3 Ti200 memory to 500 rock stable, 520 (hasn't screwed up). 530-540 seems to be where it really craps out on this card. The core is most stable at <235 core; I run it at 220 core just to be safe (rock stable). I wonder if you got slower RAM chips on there or someting. Also, does it have RAMsinks on it?

Hmm, I think I may need to o/c my t-bird heh. You got 500mhz more out of it, nice. I'm only getting 5300ish 3DMark score. I run at 200/430, cant seem to get any more out of my siluro. Oh well.

Jiffy -> Yeah, it's got ARAM sinks, but I saw a review on Hardocp.com where they had a Ti500, with the same cooling. They had to re apply the RAM sinks as they were warped and not making complete contact. Think I'll have to get in there with the tools...

Valeon -> If you got an AXIA or similar you should definately be clocking that sucker!

A 245 core OC on a ti200 is an awesome overclock. Your memory is not a great OC, but it's still decent. I can hit 230/530 stable with my visiontek ti200. I'm getting a Crystal Orb to replace my stock HSF on it...should be here soon. Maybe I'll get 240 out of the core then. My fan was failing, so that's why I'm getting the new cooler. Cooling it down is definitely a good thing to do, as 240 with that HSF will roast the CPU after a while. Get a COrb and you should be good.

when i had a gainward Ti200 i got an overclock of 240/550 and the memory wuld go to 565 before any trouble.

Right. Got a TT memory cooling kit and a Crystal Orb, pulled off the Abit Cr4p to find that the mem sinks barely touched the chips and the GPU sink wasn't making full contact!!!

Orb'd it up with some AS-II and now I get 250 core stable, previous 240, from 175 stock...w00t! (WTF does that mean?)
TT mem cooled and now got mem running 475 from 450, still not at the max, we'll see..

Not bad.

Basic recommendation for anyone with a Siluro is ditch the standard Cooling and mod it. You'll be happy and the card will probably last longer

3DMark2K1 = 7789 now up 89 points, must be CPU constrained...Next up, How I pushed my 1Ghz AXIA to 1.6Ghz with Air Cooling!

Currently at 1.518Ghz!!

I just ordered an Abit GF3 Ti-200. I really like Crystal Orbs also (lapped down to the copper).
But has anyone tried lapping the stock GPU HS and applying AS 2 or 3? I used to have a V3 that was very hot, until I lapped the HS and slapped some AS 2 on it. It was amazing how well it worked.

Blain,

The standard HSF is a nice design, but it has a weak ass fan on it. If you want it to perform better, get some AS on it, as the standard goop is rarely spread correctly.

But I really think you should get an ORB of some description, as it will out perform the standard sink, no contest.

PLUS

Rip off those RAM sinks as they barely touch your chips! Either re-apply or buy some replacements.

After reading that they were applied with thermal tape, I planned on using some AS epoxy on them. That is after I make sure the card is going to run ok and the RAMsinks are flat.
I've got a couple of blue orbs laying around. I lapped and installed two crystal orbs on a V5 I had. They made a world of difference on the heat dissipated.
If one of the blue orbs doesn't cool like I want I may have to slap a crystal orb on there.

shurleydude: Artifacts are defects showing up on the screen. Don't know the technical definition, but have seens these many time. All you have to do is push your video over it's limit and either it will lock or show Artifacts.

Everyone's talking about replacing the core cooler and reattaching the ram sinks. I understand how to remove and reattach, or replace, the core cooler, but how do I remove the RAM Sinks? These were applied with thermal tape (ThermalTake RAMSinks). Also, these sinks are strips (2) that over the 4 individual DDR Rams on the card. I'm worried about getting som apx on the connetions. Any thoughts besides BE CAREFUL?

Stick the card in the freezer for about an hour. Gently pry the ram sinks off with a butter knife. Use a new utility knife blade to scrape what tape remains off the memory chips. Clean the chips with some rubbing alcohol. I use 91%, less water and faster drying.
If you use AS epoxy to fasten the ramsinks back on, use masking tape to cover the memory leads in case the epoxy is pushed out on them.

The official Arctic Silver epoxy instructions ;)
