ABIT SILURO GEFORCE GF2 MX 64MG W/ TV OUT any good ?
Just want some opinions on this video card?
I can get it locally on sale this week for $139.99 CDN and hell take my v3k on trade for $35.00
Is that a good deal?
I dont want to spend the dough for a geforce 3 right now.
I have a voodoo 3 3000 agp in here and it is giving me all kinds of trouble.
will that card be a big upgrade from the v3k?
I havent been into games much lately but I want to be able to play some newer games again and watch avis or videos on the tv out once in a while too.
I have a celeron 900 with 384 megs of ram a maxtor 40 gig 7200 drive and sb live.
I am going to give this comp to the kids soon and build myself a faster rig but for now will that video card be all right at 800 x 600 32 bit color on this cpu?
any ideas?
also the 32 meg card is alot cheaper is there much difference in the amount of ram on the card?
I usually only play at 800 x 600 anyway cuz Im blind as a bat and cant read the text on high res...
thanks for any info

I'm upgrading from a Voodoo3 3000 also.....

I've decided to go to a Geforce2 Ti 64 mb DDR SDram. I'm paying $99.00 (US) shipped.

I looked at the MX series, but most of the reviews/ tests didn't paint a flattering picture. I just wanted to
be a little closer to the leading edge, so I wouldn't have to upgrade again right away.

Another choice might be the ATi Radeon LE. Alot of guys around here are playing that one up as a good
low-buck choice. It goes for about $55 to 60 (US) and has DDR memory . It's definitely much better than
the Geforce2 MX series, especially in 2D. And the TV out is supposedly excellent on ATi boards.

I went with the Geforce2 Ti because it has DDR ram also and is the performance is much better than the
MX or the Radeon LE. It doesn't have TVout, though. Not sure how much $$ that would add.

I'm not sure about the $139 CDN price. I don't know what the exchange rates are. I know you can pick
up one of those MX jobs for about $50 in the US. Check out Pricewatch.com.

Good luck
:D

As far as the MX400 cards go it is probably one of the best. I have one and I have been very pleased with it. I hear it overclocks very well but I haven't bothered. So far I have only tried gaming at 640x480 on it (via the TV) and that was FIFA 2002 and it was smooth as can be. It will be a huge upgrade from a V3!

I have a Siluro regular GF2-GTS. It is the best card I have ever owned!

Overclocks like a dream. I have had it as high as 250/415 and it wanted to go higher.

Abit.... what more can I say?

Do u really need TV-out?

I just received the GTS-V from newegg.com for $59 shipped. That must be around CDN$90?

This will outperform your MX card by quite a reasonable margin.

I'm sure you will not be unhappy with the MX though - I had one previously and was very happy with it ;)

Just more "bang for your buck" with the GTS-V.

I should have mentioned that in my primary machine I have a Leadtek GF2 Pro with TV-out check out newegg.com for the latest prices.

I'd keep the Voodoo card - perhaps you just require a driver update?

You will need two cards in the end anyway if you will be using both PC's.

Regarding 32MB vs 64MB cards - from my understanding most games are currently designed for max 32MB textures (don't quote me on this!) so if you have a 64MB card it will make absolutely no difference other than having more memory and looking more impressive on boot up ;) The 64/128MB cards have been simply described as a "marketing ploy" and offer no "real world" benefit at this point in time.

The GF2 GTS/Pro cards are actually better value for money now than the MX's - if you can get an MX for say 25-30% less cost than a GTS based card then it will be a viable option in my opinion. :) Especially if you will only be going to 800x600 ;)
