Nvidia should fix their nForce4 drivers first

Nvidia gets away with $hitty drivers because they are really the only major player for motherboard chipsets on the AMD side. They know they have the upper hand, and know they don't have to fix their drivers because they are the only option. If you want to run an AMD cpu, 99% of users will have to run a nForce4 motherboard.

Hopefully ATI chipsets will put some pressure on Nvidia and take away some of the business and users from Nvidia's chipsets. VIA seems to be sleeping right now, and nowhere near being part of the chipset wars like previously.

no kidding...
the average "joe" that purchases one of those boards has a normal day job, that is far from 1337 status!

I've never gotten what was better about the fatal1ty things. I mean they look exactly the same cept for the cooler. I'm talking about the cpu and vga coolers zalman makes. Can anyone explain if it does make any difference?

Looks like Abit (my former fave mobo company turned mediocre) is doing their usual stupid Abit thing with the floppy connector on the bottom of the mobo, the 4-pin +12V ATI in the top left corner of the board, and some small (probably noisy) fans in the top left corner. Plus the normal molex plug in the left middle of the board above the first PCI-e 16X slot. Who's designing these boards for them these days? They need a kick in the @ss and to take a page out of DFI's play book in terms of placement.

Plus as others have mentioned, Fatal1ty products are overpriced and usually don't really do anything special over non-fatal1ty parts except cost more and have a bit more "rice" factor (LED's, higher RPM fans (noise is l33t!!!) ), etc.

I wont buy it because buying it is like "Oh this has the most ub3r gamer in the world's name on it (UNQUOTE: Which wouldnt be true either) Im gonna buy it"

Same thing as saying hes a better gamer than me, screw him.

My game name is "A FAT RETARDED NOOB"

Yea, watch them put that on PC parts :D

ABIT AVX SLI64X A FAT RETARDED NOOB Version!

Sure they do. Check out the Lanparty UT and SLI boards - it's just great. ATX power connectors in the right place, floppy in the right place, etc. The extra two connectors above the PCI-e slot are a bit out there but considering it gives the board more juice than any other board out there, it's worth it.

I'm a big fan of ASUS motherboards but they also do some silly stuff like putting the 4-pin ATX +12V connector in the top left corner of the board, so it has to loop around the CPU HSF. But generally speaking Asus is doing a much better job these days on placement than Abit.

LOL you guys.

Fatal1ty is an extremely skilled fps gamer, & he wants to make some money.

We'd all do the same thing in his shoes...

Anyone else notice the Dolby Digital Live logo on the second shot? Could it be the return of something SoundStorm-like?

Many people dislike Fatal1ty, but probably because they are jealous. I have played a few games of UT2K4 with the guy. He is a nice guy actually. He doesn't gloat or act rude, he accepts compliments and dishes them out as well. In the server I was in, kill limit was 75, and there were 20 or so players. Even when he had 75 points and the person in second around 15, he still did not gloat or anything. While I can see why some people may be angry over having some gamer's alias on a board as being a bit odd, it is no biggy.

And for those of you wondering, he is THAT good. I used to play UT2k4 competitively and was well up there in the ranks of the good people. Godlike bots are a piece of cake to me, and Fatal1ty handed it to me every game. Out of 75 kills(the fraglimit), he usually did not die once in the whole game. Once in a few games, he would die once or twice. When he had 75 kills, the rest of us had under 15.

Ignoring the branding, which does put me off somewhat.

Onboard sound = good.
Only the one ATA socket = not good, i'm still using IDE HDs the single connector would mean that i'd have to either ditch a burner, or switch over to a SATA DVDRW, or more likely just not buy this board.
The heatpipe would have been interesting if it weren't for the small (and thus loud) fan stuck at the back, not attractive for low noise.

Looks like it might be a nice board, but i wouldn't buy it.

the reason why I was always a historic fan of nVidia chipsets was because the platform/drivers were considerably less flakey than Via alternatives.

they appear to have had problems with the nForce3/4 series which they say they have fixxed for nForce5, i'll give them an opportunity to demonstrate that.

?huh?

yer craaazah dood :p ...lol

dfi has great placement compared to asus,.. not to mention better boards

dfi- fantastic sexy boards!,.. great service, good compatibility with cpu coolers..never had a problem with any ive built in systems and they always do what i want them to do
abit-ditto,..floppy connector actually is nice unless you have an enormously huge case then you may come to find it annoying,(and even worse have to use ribbon cables if you cant find a round one long enough,..phooey! uhg! puke! @ the thought)..but unless you use a raid array anymore theres genrally no use for a floppy anyhow, though since i use raid also,. i flash bios from floppy
asus- they make me want to prank thier customer service tech's every morning to start my day ;)
