Ok..I've read all the reviews and most say that the SE6 is a solid if unspectacular motherboard. What is the general opinion of it around here? Anyone used one? The reason I'm asking is a guy I work with has one for sale with a Cel 600 on it. He is upgrading to a T-Bird systems and will sell me the SE6 & processor for $75. Sounds like a good deal to me and he says he's never had a problem with the board. I've used Abit in the past and have been satisifed but I seem to remember people posting about some strange problems with the SE6 & Win2k. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Thanks!!!

If buying new, I probably would get an MSI or ASUS 815 board, but that price seems really good for a 815 board AND cpu. Especially if the CPU can hit 900mhz! I don't have any experience with this particular ABIT board, but if presented this same deal, I'd probably buy it, as that would be a good foundation for a budget machine. There you have it from the financial perspective..

Perhaps people who have had hands-on experience can maybe jump in now and tell you their experiences with this board.

I used one, and didn't much care for it. Had issues trying to set up the onboard audio, and it didn't overclock my P3-700e very well at all.

As subhuman said, the MSI and Asus boards are better... but you really can't beat that price.

If he doesn't sell it to you, tell him I'll buy it from him. (yes, I'm serious.) :)

Thanks....the onboard audio and video won't matter to me and I will simply disable them since I will use my SB Live and soon to be arriving GeForce MX vid card. Other than the onboard audio did you have any issues?

I just bought the SH6(slot version 815) and I bought a SL6 for the inlaws computer I just built. Both have been rock solid so far. I have a 700e @1008 on the SH6 and a 700e @933 on the SL6. Both were a snap to install and setup. Hope this helps.

i have mine using celeron 566@850 rock solid, no problem with any instability

the only problem is it only gives maximum voltage of 1.75 to celeron

i was going to push my celeron over 850 but it doesn't provide voltage higher than 1.75. Celeron needs voltage higher than 1.75 to go over 100FSB

i love it but too bad i will change it soon enough i got my Pro2A and duron 800

Currently running the SE6 w/ PIII700E@933 as type this. I would recommend this mobo. I was bit skeptical about this board as I am a big Asus fan, but surpringly this board NEVER gave me any problems (knock on wood). Especially for the price you're getting, it's a steal, imo.

I'm second in line behind Wingznut, if you decide not to buy that combo. :)

Hope this helps.

Before you buy a motherboard with HIGHPOINT you might want to read this -- that's just the first one I could find, there are more. You might want to search on "HPT" in the subject in all forums, and see what sort of "success" people are having with this chip BEFORE buying =)
