abit SA6R/maxtor 200gb HD problems

Just purchased a maxtor 200gb ATA133 hd from newegg. Plugged it into my old school SA6R mobo (yes i know i need to upgrade) and neither HPT bios nor windows will see any more than 128gb of this drive's space. Updated to latest bios (if 6/02 can be considered 'latest') that listed in fixes "ability to recognize drives up to 137gb and above". Still nothing more than 128gb is recognized. My question is this: is there a way to get this hardware to fully utilize this drive? or is my mobo just too old to understand the technology in the new hd? if the latter is the case, then i guess this is a good reason to upgrade, something i've been putting off for too long anyway. thanks for any help you guys can provide. 🙂
