Abit release RX850 XT PE - You guys see this?

The X850XTPE card physically looks awesome, but from what I heard it's only a bit better than the X800XTPE (something like 10%?) and uses up almost 1/3 more power than the 6800Ultra. If the X850XTPE turns out being like 700+ bucks, the performance increase DEFINATELY does NOT justify the price. Unless the X850XTPE costs 550-, I'd still just get a X800XTPE (or in your case, the 6800Ultra).

I agree about the marginal performance increase. IMHO, it is a total waste of resources and time on ATI's part. THey should be planning for the next gen and working on current output (which sucks!) If that card seriously used another 33% power than the Ultra does that is BAD!! In the end the extra gouging on this "newest" card isn't going to be worth it. I've even considered getting a 6800GT but I see no reason, same with waiting for PCI-E, no need.

I just wanted to make it known Abit put out info on theirs. Like I said too bad it doesn't have OTES.

You're making that power comment up. Post some proof.

Going by Xbit's previous power cosumption tests and Anand's figure the power consumption would be:

6800U: 70W
X800XT: 65W
X850XTPE: 90W

Maybe ATI wanted to hold the single card performance crown, in light of Nvidia's cancellations of NV48 and NV50?

Well we cant be certain for sure right now as there are rumours of NV47 with 24 pixel pipelines.

Awesomely noisy? The idea was good, but Arctic Cooling was the first company to do it right, offering you a choice between quiet and regular noise levels while maintaining good cooling. Abit's OTES and nV's FX Flow were both equally intriguing, but just too damn loud.

BTW, I don't see a pic of the board in your link...? (Also, how did you get it listed as a MB? 🙂)

Sorry to point out your error Pete, but you are wrong about OTES.

ABIT scored a homerun with the OTES system on the GF4 Ti 4200. It was a properly implemented system that did the job, and then some.
ABIT claims that this cooling solution only puts out 25 decibels of sound, making for a very quite fan compared to some other solutions
The fan is indeed very quite, even in an open system with the motherboard right next to me I have to say that the fan is definitely quiet.

Doesn't sound like HardOCP has a problem with it on the 4200 or 5900?

The best about this cooling is that it is quiet. Admittedly it sounds a bit more than what "regular" graphic card cooling does but compared to FlowFX or Gainward's own version of FlowFX this product is very quiet. The noise that comes from the fan is of such character that it doesn't appear as annoying. In other words no high freqency noise.

NordicHardware says OTES is quiet on the 5800.

I think ATi are bringing this out because of their production yeilds with the X800.

This series, the X850 is supposed to alleviate the problem of production and as Anand and many other sites have said, there shouldnt be a problem of supplying demand.

Also i think they might have increased the performance just by a bit to justify the different name for the card also. But i think the main reason for this new card is to br able to produce big quantities after the failed attempt at the X800 production.
