(This was also posted in PSUs, but i figured the mobo crowd might know the answer as well)
I currently have an Abit AB9 and an Abit QuadGT. The standard AB9 uses a 4 pin CPU power connector. The QuadGT uses an 8 pin. Do you need a certain type of PSU to get the 8 pin connector? For example, my NeoHE 550w has both, but I was looking at the EarthWatts PSUs on newegg and they don't look like they have both -

So does that mean it isn't compatible, or am I missing something?

I was especially curious, because it looks like the new Abit boards like the IP35 and IP35-e both use the 8 pin as well.

Thanks in advance!

Sorry for my ignorance, so the suggestion is to plug in the 24-pin connector, and the 4-pin connector into the 8-pin connection on the mobo? If that is correct, how do you know which of the 4-pins to use in the 8-pin connector on the mobo?

Thanks!

24-pin has its own connector. Leave the top 4 pin unplugged if you have an 8-pin MB and a 4-pin PSU. Read the manual.
