Abit IP35 or GIGABYTE GA-P35C-DS3R

Can I use this memory:
Crucial Ballistix 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400)

I read that it needs 2.2 v and the Abit stock memory voltage is 1.8v.
Will the motherboard recognize it?

What other memory do you recommend?

I'm always used Crucial so I would like to continue it since I had no problems. Abit website does't have compatible memory list.

E6850 is my processor of choice and I will like to slightly overclock it in the future.

Yes, those Ballistix are one of the best kits around.

Yes, both boards will be able to boot with a single stick (or even maybe both; my P35-DS3R booted up fine with both ballistix in).

The Ballistix are great. If you don't need highly overclockable RAM, then some Super Talent or G.Skill 2GBNQ should be cheap enough. Then, there are the OCZ sticks with crazy rebates right now, and they've seemed to work out most of the problems OCZs were having earlier.

The Ballistix will work fine in the IP35. I'd go for the P35-DS3R instead, as it seems to have more features for your money, along with a 6-phase power design. Also, I don't think DDR3 support is worth the extra $30, but if you do, then go for it. I just think that DDR3 will only surpass DDR2 performance-wise when it can reach much higher speeds than DDR2; but I don't think the DS3R can reach that high of an FSB.

E6850: 9 * 333 = 3.0Ghz, DDR2-667 << STOCK
E6850: 9 * 400 = 3.6Ghz, DDR2-800 << Nice OC
E6850: 9 * 445 = 4.0Ghz, DDR2-890 << Good OC

You'll need a good aftermarket cooler to hit a nice OC. I recommend the Scythe Ninja Plus Rev.B, Tuniq Tower 120, or Thermalright Ultra 120 eXtreme + S-Flex fan.
