Abit or ECS?

Where does it say that ECS is actually "designing" these other companys boards?

In this one case, maybe. To fill a niche. But does Abit let ECS completely design and build their flagship boards? Gawd, I hope not.

PS> Private labeling is very common in all manufacturing. But maybe there are some mods like you said and more rigorous testing.
I think lack of quality control is a bigger problem with ECS.

The answer is a big YES!!..

I have done it.. I have an ECS KM400a-M2 bios. Everest showed the bios as both ECS KM400a-M2 and ABIT VA-20!...
So I decided to update the bios with Va-20(rev 1.1)!.. It was a total sucsess!..
Lately abit has released a new version..(1.2).. i also updated this one..
The only thing is it does not post any ABIT VA20 during the first screen now.(Thogh it was in the previous version)...
But it perfcetly works.. With the previous version i could not get my Sempron 2400+ with 200 fsb steadily.. But with this one i can...
The two board is completely identical.. there is no difference!.. just the name.. that's it.. so i could update the bios without any problem...

Yes, I think so. ECS is making motherboards for many 2nd-tier MB brands.
