Need some advice on which mobo to get for my homebuilt gaming/internet system using Duron 700. I will be adding my old periphs to the system that include:

Aureal SQ2500
64MB PC-100
Farralon Ethernet card
V3 2000 AGP
WD something or other (two years old)

I'd plan on overclocking as much as I can. I guess it's the Abit KA7 or the Asus A7V. I want something that will work well with the video card and the sound card.

Thanks

If you're using a Duron, you must mean the Abit KT7/KT7-RAID and the Asus A7V.

Do NOT confuse these with the Abit KA7 and the Asus K7V. These are for SLOT-A processors. The Duron is a SOCKET-A processor and will NOT work in these boards.

Anyway, as for which to use, it's nearly a toss-up. The KT7 and A7V are both excellent boards, and AnandTech gave the KT7-RAID it's "Editor's Choice" award. There are many reviews available for both on the web. Try a search at ReviewBooth to read some of them.

Hope this helps!

This topic has been covered a zillion times , try using search. If any of your old cards are ISA, the ABIT has 1 ISA slot the ASUS has none.

Abit's KT7. Abit has been great for me. Some of their boards have had stability problems, but Anand loved the KT7.

Almost right "bigsmooth"......KT7 & A7V are the Socket A MoBo's......KA7 & K7V are their Slot A Counterparts! As far which....both are good, but I much prefer the KT7, less set-up problems and much better O/C'ing! Good Luck!

OOPS! Thanks, ToBeMe, I edited it to fix the error. I swear, these mobo manufacturers are just trying to confuse us! KT7, K7T, KA7, A7V, K7V... sigh...
