I was planning to use this with a heavily downclocked duron as a fileserver, but someonesaid it lacks multiplier admustment.. so I can't clock it down.. is this true? If so, is there a hacked bios for it?

Thanx

No, no multi adj for that board as per reports at sites like nForcersHQ.com (the nForce section forums). Might check over there or at the abit forums to see if anybody (TicTac or Merlin) has done some modded BIOS to enable the feature. Otherwise a wire/pin trick may change the multi.

Prolly better to just get a diff mobo. The Shuttle AN35n-Ultra is a pretty good NF2 mobo for about $55. But it doesn't have the SoundStorm or SATA Raid built-in.

None according to me, here at AT. I had one last summer. It never would remain stable at above 133 MHz, even with DDR 400 RAM and with a 400 MHz fsb XP 3000 in it. It wouldn't even try doing anything when set to 200 MHz. Just froze up solid.

That particular NF-7 didn't have Soundstorm, either, but isn't there a Shuttle Ultra 400 MB that *DOES* have the MCP-T, and thus, Soundstorm?

Sorry, don't know Kiwi (are you a New Zealander living in TX?). I just happened to have a spare Barton lying around and used the AN35N-Ultra to put together a file server (why I mentioned it to the OP). Otherwise I don't keep up with Shuttle mobo's much.

hey peeps.. thanx for the replies.. It's sad it doesn't have the multiplier adjustment.. The built in gigabit lan and firewall woulda made it a nice file server.

Anyway.. does the original nf7 have multiplier adjustment?

Yes, the NF7 has multiplier adjustment, but are you getting an unlocked processor?

If you get a motherboard with a VIA/SiS chipset you can mod the processor to a Mobile and change the multiplier on the fly with a software like CPUMSR.

I am both NZ and TX -- my parents were in New Zealand when I was born, so I could emigrate to there if I chose to do so, and not have to fit into any quotas. But my folks were Texans, and they brought me back here before I was old enough to have any memories of that down-under land.

About the differences in NF7's, the S2's do not have the MCP-T, nor do they have the flexible options for overclocking activity. I was hoping to use the Gigabyte LAN to bridge between a very small LAN and a much bigger one, and I thought I'd be at a disadvantage with the slower ethernet twisted pair NIC's in use on the small one. I ended up with just a switch between the two LANs; the NF7-S2G that I tried had several problems and I never did get any kind of LAN running to the particular PC involved while that MB was in it.
