Does the Abit nf7-s2g have nVidia's new nforce2 MCP-GB?

In otherwords does this board actually have NV gigabit.
I'm looking for a socket A board that has it.
This one seems to fit the bill, but the Abit website wasn't exactly conclusive.

They claim onboard gigabit, not onchip.
So I can't conclude whether that is NV gigabit or not.
I saw something about MCP RAID, which the MCP-GB does have so that's a plus, but I'd like Abit to just come out and either say they are using NV gigabit, or the MCP-GB media and comunications processor.
Forgive me if I seem paranoid, but I've noticed that motherboard manufacturers tend to get sketchy on info when they want you to think it has something that it doesn't have.

Thanks

Your link is bad.

Here's a good link.

And it is supposed to have the new SB chip with the on chip NV Gb LAN. There is no detailed spec page up for that board yet to be 100% certain, though. We'll know soon enough.

Verrrrrry interesting :) Looking at the drivers page, it has LAN drivers for a VIA VT6122, which appears to be a PCI gigaNIC-in-a-chip: link to the VIA VT6122

Or maybe it's acting as a PHY? I went to ftp://ftp.abit.com.tw and rummaged for a manual that might potentially have a logical block diagram of what's what, but nothing yet.

If someone gave a better picture I could just read the MCP chip and find out now, though.

The board is already availible.
I'd figure they'd want a full spec. page by release time, but apparently not.
Oh, well.

Yeah, it's conceivable. The NV gigabit needs a PHY to connect it to the actual jack and the VIA chiplet might be serving just that purpose, I suppose... I'm not that deep into the mysteries of that stuff. It would be pretty underhanded to do that, but these mobo companies are stubborn.

I see the Asus K8N-E Deluxe has a Marvell PHY supporting the NV MAC.
Hopefully the Abit NF7-S2G is a similar setup.
I won't know that until the full spec. page gets posted though.
Thanks for your help.

Sure thing. What makes me think that the VIA chip is doing more than just PHY duties, is that they've got a driver for it. You might check out the EPoX 8RDA6+ Pro, another nF2 Ultra400Gb board that I believe is making use of the nVidia gigabit. Still checking on that one too, however.

Concerning the EPoX 8RDA6+ Pro:
I don't see a MAC or a driver for the Cicada CIS8201 PHY.
They also make reference to the Gigabit MCP, I know it's there.
The manual has a block diagram that seems to point to NV Gigabit.
It's probably a safe bet.
This isn't one of my prefered manufacturers, but I'll consider.
Thanks again.
