It's been about 1.5 years since I've had this board and while I was cleaning out dust bunnies last night, I noticed the chipset fan was no longer spinning when the system was powered.

Should I be worried about something like this? I tried unplugging the chipset fan from the board and plugging it back in but it did nothing.

Is the board still under warranty?

I'm not sure, but perhaps there's progy like Sisandra which will give you chipset temps? If the temps don't get too high during the apps you use, perhaps this will not be an issue to you.

If you're not overclocking, chipset temps may not be too big an issue since you still have a heat sink attached.

It's an issue with almost every actively cooled chipset because the manufacturers use crappy 40mm fans. I'd suggest getting the Zalman NB passive HS unit - I use it on my NF7-S v2 with no problems, pretty good cooling.

I would just get a passive cooler and you should be good. The only thing you might have to watch out for is if you have an aftermarket cooler like a zalman.

Not to say that 40mm fans are crappy. :) It's just that they like to use cheap fans, as a way of cutting costs. There are good 40mm (and even 25mm) fans out there. My network switch used a cheap 25mm fan, as well as a VERY poorly attached heatsink on a large, hot chip inside. I attached a 40mm fan to the large chip, and replaced the ailing 25mm fan with better quality, ball bearing fans. The thing's been running basically 24/7 (there are occasional power outages here) for almost 2 years now.

my nf7s fan's fins broke and stopped spinning. I just left it like that for a few months and it ran okay with just the Heatsink + Abit's crappy thermalpaste. I often leave my comp on 24-7.

But i eventually got a zalman nb47j + AC5...

so I guess you can run it with a broken fan...but of course...YMMV!
