abit nf7-s question ...

I notice that the abit nf7-s requires 2 power inputs (20pin atx, and the 4pin that are seen on P4 boards), Is this a new thing with new boards or what because mine doesnt have it.

Your new ABIT NF7-S doesn't have a ATX12V? It should right next to the ATXPWR (20pin), right above it.

I didnt buy yet, I seen it in a picture. Im trying to say my board only has 20pin atx, what the hell is the other 4 pin thing, AMD doesnt have this, why does abit nf7's have them ???

I believe for supporting of special features, or systems with a lot of add on cards etc... However I've had mine plugged in since the beginning (I thought it was required though I could be very wrong).

no when its there it is required, But I never seen any boards other then that with the extra power thing. This is kind of a down side for me, This is one of the reasons why I didnt want a p4.

Well, I know the MSI has it, but I'm not sure about the Epox or ASUS.

the Abit NF7-S has the 4 pin connector.. however, It is only OPTIONAL... they recommend u use it tho.. all is does is give u 12V more to play with.. other than that, nothing at all.. its good if u have lotsa drives, and other things that use power.
im usin it cause i need to power my radeon 9500 pro, my 4 drives, cathode lights, extra case fans, cpu digital thermometer etc... but i know of a lot of ppl using this board, but not using the 4 pin connector..

I read up on this a few days ago. The reason it has two power connectors is due to the 3 stage voltage regulator that Abit uses. It is there to share the current load across more than one input. It is supposed to improve the stability of the board and provide lower temps around the MOSFET's through a more balanced current load.

I see what you're saying now. You are wondering why (ABIT) an AMD board has the ATX12v 4pin connector, correct?

The extra +12v power connector was actually part of the original nForce2 reference board design. Abit's just following spec.

well according to the manual and abit.. the 12V connector is NOT required.. however it does seem to give me some nice rails...
5.05V for the 5V rail.. i never got over 5V with my enermax..

well the flaky CPU voltage is still a problem..

it only makes sense that, as CPU's and GPU's require more and more power, you would need to have more wires between your power supply and mobo.
What gauge are most power supply wires, anyway...18?
