Abit NF7-S...I have a problem, please assist.

I took my motherboard out of my case via the removable motherboard tray to do some work on it and I found a large burn on the SATA Link chip's sticker(the one with the green NF7-S sticker on it). The burn is about the size of a pencil eraser tip and that is it. Is this chip for only controlling the serial hard drives? I don't intend to ever get one so should I not worry about it? I think this happened over a month ago maybe. The system has been perfect and stable for 4 weeks. Should I still RMA it? Even if I do, they will probably check it and say it is ok and slap another sticker on? I got it from excalbierpc.

I myself would RMA it as you dont know what shorted out and therefore you do not know what else may be effected eventually. Hopefully The motherboard manufacturer will take it back. They may blame you for the damage and not replace it. Doesn't hurt to try. Rick

Rma it bro...I belieave Abit has a online RMA department ....simply explain that it doesn't work. Send it back and they will most likely replace it. Those guys never test returned items due to work load. Feel safe sending it back! Shortly you'll have a new mobo in the mail. I just recently RMA'd a bad video card with abit.
