ABIT NF7-S chipset fan dead?

I have a NF7-S 2.0 that is about two months old and the fan seems to be dying as it randomly turns of. I used an aid duster to remove some dust but it is still bad.

Is this normal of this board. I though it is one of the best for reliability? And is there anything I can about this or get a new fan from ABIT without actually taking out the motherboard?

Thanks

Ive had my NF7-S for about 11 months with no chipset fan problems and I havent heard of anyone having the stock fan go.

ABIT will probably tell you that the heatsink will do a good enough job on its own if you arent overclocking (possibly even ok at 200 fsb). EPoX sent me a small heatsink/fan to replace my dead fan on my EPoX 8KHA+ (Via KT266A chipset). ABIT may do the same.

The fans sometimes go, its the way it is.

You can get one from ABIT under warranty.

Or you can buy an aftermarket one like I did for my Epox 8RDA+. I used the copper Vantec Iceberg kit.

Just wondering, is there any way to update the HSF without taking the motherboard out of the case?

So far I am running only at 333 FSB. But I just got some new ram and would like to try 400. I don't have any stability issues so far and the heatsink never gets hot with the fan off.

So I would like to know how much hotter would it be at 400 form 333 and should I even try it without a fan?

Thanks

As I recall you have to access the backside of the motherboard to remove the NF7-S northbridge heatsink/fan. Also it is an integrated unit. I am currently using the Swiftech MCX159-A chipset cooler on my NF7-S northbridge. It is a nice piece of hardware -- super duper compared to everything else I have used. I had a Vantec Iceberq on the chipset of an 8RDA+, and I thought it worked very well. It is now on a 9700 Pro.

The way I have heard of, other than what cowdog said, is to have an extra set of those white plastic pins that hold the heatsink on. If you get an extra pair, you cut the existing pins and push through the mobo. Being plastic, there s/n be any risk of shorting. Then take the new ones and install from the top (the regualr way) of the mobo.
