Abit NF7, Asus A7N8X, or EpoX 8RDA+ - which one do you have?

I see that all these motherboards are all good at overclocking, but which one you buy? I will be using Kingston HyperX ram, probably pc3000.

I agree with the Kid. I have the Asus, and am very happy with it. But if I were to buy right now I'd get the Abit NF7-S rev. 1.2 at eXcaliberPC- pretty much guaranteed 200MHz fsb or more.

what about the bios corruption issues i've heard with the abit nf7 and epox 8rda+ ? Is this because of overclocking incorrectly/too high?

I don't know exactly where bios corruption stems from. I've only heard rumors. I would like to go into further detail but I can't because there just aren't enough cold-hard facts to support a conclusion.

I have the Asus. But shimmishimm has done some lovely things with the 8RDA+. I've noticed that on the Asus you can't pump the voltages up as high, and read of troubles pushing it over 200 mhz

I have had an 8RDA+ and it's a great board but couldn't get mine past 195FSB without a volt mod which I didn't want to do. Now have an Abit Nf7-S and it will run 208 in the sink memory mode and 220 with memory on one channel. Both a great boards and you would be happy with either, it's just a matter of how fast you want to go. No Asus for me been there done that for my last time.

Same, bought it for Soundstorm (great for home theater setups) and for SATA (going to be running my current drive through a converter to cut down on cable clutter - those SATA cables are absolutely tiny, even compared to rounded IDE).

i've got the 8rda+. 2100+ @ 11x200MHz. memory @ 4-2-2-2 timings.

the best theory i have heard for the BIOS curruption problem is that there are so many bios settings that it all can't be stored in the CMOS memory. to get around this nForce bioses write to the BIOS EEPROM as well as CMOS. essentially a mini-flash to one section of the chip. since o/c'ing can reduce stability, and flashing bioses shouldn't be done overclocked, there-in lies the danger.

the newest Epox bios actually says something like "Flashing Frequency Settings, do not reset" or something like that when you "Save & Exit " from bios.

that said, i've flashed my bios overclocked and changed and saved many times overclocked as well with no issues. i guess i've been pretty lucky.

I don't think I need the extra features nor the extra price of the A7N8X so I think I will go NF7 or 8RDA+, probably the NF7 since I've read it's a better overclocker, plus the Abit is the cheapest of the three!

The Abit is not the cheapest of the 3, the Epox is. Pricewise it goes like this:

ASUS A7N8X Deluxe
Abit NF7-S
Epox 8RDA+

I've read about the bios corruption problem on Abit NF7-S so I purchased the board from excaliber.com together with bios recovery kit (an extra bios chip) for ~10 bucks. Now I don't care if it gets corrupted.

The Abit is the cheaptest at Newegg --- Abit (105), Asus (121), EpoX (112).

A7N8X Dlx when it first came out. Now with 1002A bios. Not a hiccup yet (going on 4 months and o/c pretty much from day 1).

I don't think newegg guarantees a rev 1.2 on the abit though. And you can get the 8rda+ board at some places for $104.

Don't get NF7 unless it's revision 1.2. Abit NF7 1.2 and Abit NF7-S rev 1.2 are both garaunteed at ExcaliberPC. They have a special relationship with Abit.
