ABIT makes some **cheap** mobo

THose little cheap plastic thing that protrude out from the CPU base so u can mount a HS to ur cpu broke so easily. now i cant mount my heatsink on my cpu anymore. so basically my mobo is GONE!!! i need a new mobo. they should at least try making those outa steel next time so it wouldnt break so easily.

First of all...those are all made basically the same way...in order to break those you have to use a LOT of force...so I think it was installer error.

However, your motherboard is not lost! You can easily find some HSFs that will mount through the holes that surround the socket...so it is not all lost! Just look for a HSF that mounts through the holes...watercooling does it too but I don't think you want to shell out that much money for cooling.

you mean the lugs?
lots of people have broken them, and not only on abit boards.
i believe molex makes many of them (i could be wrong), but i remember seeing a manufacturer name on there once. take a close look and you might find it.

btw, you could get a taisol or other heatsink that uses all 3 lugs rather than one on each side.

Good suggestions.. There used to be a repair kit for those at one time. I repaired one once using a small screw in place of the lug. I had to drill a tiny hole with a special hand drill I have from my old trusty carburetor jet kit and then screwed in a tiny self tapping screw where the lug used to be.. worked perfect. Well it beat tossing a 100 dollar plus board in the can..

I don't think abit makes the socket itself. If you pressed hard enough to do damage to the socket, I don't want to see your core.

Agreed, get an AX7. It uses all three lugs on both sides, and it's a very, very good heatsink.

I think that mounting the HSF in the mobo holes is the ONLY way to go! I do not like having to mess around with clips and all that... maybe the holes are a bit more work, but they are much safer (for your core) to install. Alpha PAL 8045 all the way!

Impressive. I would not have the balls to get near my mobo w/ a hand drill

THis drill is about the size of an exacto blade handle, but holds tiny drill bits for resizing carburetor main jets. It is not powered, just hand driven..slow and easy. No risk at all, just a steady hand..
