Hi Guys,

I have a new Abit kv7-v motherboard that is not booting up for some reason. I thought maybe you guys would have some ideas of what the possibilities could be. I just built this system, and everything is brand new!! here is what is going on::confused:

I power the system on, and it comes on and lights up just for a few seconds, then power's off and a alarm is sounding. Now, i changed the ram stick (ddr400) out, to no avail. All hard drives and rom's are unhooked.

When i take the cpu (amd sempron 2.5) out, and power it up, It sits there and runs just fine. So, what any tech would do, I thought i might swap cpu's and see what that does. Well, i put an amd athlon 2.0 in it, and powered it up, and again, run's a few seconds, power's itself off, and the alarm sounds.

Now, the next thought i had was, Maybe it has to do with the multiplier and fsb settings? Well, the only problem with that is, all that is done within the bios. (no boot no bios)
So, the final thing i have tried is, I cleared the bios by the jumper, and also, blew the bios by taking the battery out.

So, here i am dazed and confused, can anyone maybe give me some ideas that i haven't already tried? Is the board bad maybe? thanks in advance for any and all help you guys can supply me with.;)

Have a good day. :)

Hi,
Ok, here is the deal. i guess athlon and sempron are a little more finicky than i thought.

i just install the hs and fan completely rather than just plug it in so it would recognize it. it worked.

However, now when it boots up, it's not sure what speed it wants to run. it finally recognized it wasn't a athlon, and it showed up after 3 or 4 boots the correct sempron 2500.

However, it go back and forth from 2500 (the correct one) to 1754.
and when i go to install windows, it goes as far as the user aggreement (everytime) and powers off.

I check the sensors, and the cpu is only 100 and the fan is running at 5183rpm's. that may be to slow. But anyway, that is where i stand now. any suggestions?

Thank you guys so much for the patience and help.

Dale
