I've got a Abit KT7A (v1.3) with the latest BIOS (2002/06/11) installed. I really wanna buy the new AMD Athlon XP 2200+ but I don't know if it is supported. The highest my mobo will support is XP 2100+.
Any of you guys have experience of the two?

Also, what is the multiplayer of the new XP 2200+?

Thanks in advance :).

I could be talking out of my erm...bottom here.....forgive me if I am, but I read somewhere that the 2200+ has a slightly different core....and the Abit KT7A is only KT133A so it's damn good that it supports even the 2100+.

What sort of performence diff are you expecting between the 1733mhz (2100+) and the 1800mhz (2200+)? Or is it just for having the latest and greatest?

It should work, but why anyone would spend ~$250 on AMD's fastest CPU and put it in that craptastic Abit KT133A board with SDRAM is beyond me...but to each his own...

Actually, its more like $210 but I agree. For the same amount, you can buy a lower powered 1900-2000+ XP plus a K7S5A mobo ( you can still use SDRAM on it if funds are short). But then again, he can go with the 2200+ and upgrade his mobo and RAM later on...
Or maybe upgrade the video card?....

I'm happy with my system. I had experience with both DDRAM and SDRAM and to be very honest, it wasn't that much of a difference. Maybe on some Benchmark program but to my eye it was all the same. I wanted 2200+ now and than a few months from now on I wanted to go DDR, but preferably when VIA releases KT444 chipset. Video card is good hehe. I don't believe my T-bird 1.33GHz has given the card everything.

Are you running that baby at 1600mhz? I doubt you would notice much difference, since the XP2200 only runs at 1800mhz. If I were you I would wait for the KT400 and then buy a T-Bred, as AMD's yeild will have improved by then, and a DDR mobo can best compliment the T-Bred.

No, I had this CPU only once at 1600. I went out of the o'clocking game a while ago. I don't like the high temperature (and I hoped that with the 2200+ it will be much better).

Sorry to bust your bubble, but the Tbreds run hotter due to the smaller die size. You might want to try a AGOIA 1600+ XP and undervolt it..

I knew that :).

Here's a reply I just received from Abit:

Dear Customer,

Sorry, KT7A v1.3 can only support XP up to 2100+ with the latest bios update.

Thank you.
