Abit KT7A & Large Hard Drives

Just purchased a KT7A system for a friend of mine.. He went out and bought a 60 gig drive to put into it and says the BIOS does not autodetect it.. It was a Western Digital.. he says he returned it and got another, same thing.. He put on a 20 gig drive and it worked fine.

He thinks its the limitation of the BIOS.. I don't think it is, I thought BIOS's in new boards can detect up to 100+ gigs. Unfortunately I am a 100% SCSI user so I don't pay attention to things like this..

Has anyone used specifically a WD hard drive 60 gigs or larger with the KT7A and did it work? What about other brands? Any problems?

i saw the exact same problem with a new wd drive (100gig). i also have an abit kt7a board. contacted wd and it turns out its a problem with bios and wd firmware. they still don't have it solved but have a temporary workaround - a modded ata100 cable (a section of wires to pin1 and pin2 is removed). i thought this was only on the 100/120 gig models, but apparently not. here is a link to wd's site with a detailed thread on the topic:

hope this helps.
