Hello,
If the Thoroughbred-B 2400+ will work in a ABIT KT7A (Via KT133A), then will the Thorton 2400+ work as well? The reason why I ask because newegg has run out of Thoroughbred-B 2400+'s and are selling the Thortons instead. I don't see why it wouldn't.... All the specifications look the same, but maybe the stepping will confuse the bios?

Thanks,
Dave

Funny I was wondering just the same thing earlier today ,good question.
Even though there's only 256k cache enabled ,the different cache config might confuse the bios ,not sure though!

Anyone else know?

(me goes off to Abit's site.......)
There's no new bios updates since July last year......

According to Abits FAQ cpu support list for the Abit KT7a v1.3 the max cpu is :-

AMD SocketA AthlonXP Palomino (0.18 micron process) up to 2100+.
AMD SocketA AthlonXP Thoroughbred (0.13 micron process) up to 2000+.

Why should it be lower for the Tbred??
Are you sure it'll support XP2400s?

[edit 3?;)]I've been over at the Abit forum looking at this thread & it seems that many people have got XP2400s working though they aren't officially supported.
Still looking for Thorton info, just started to be mentioned where I got to...............

well thanks for your help
using the same thread you posted, i found this comment

One thing I must say is to watch out for the recent Athlon`s
2400+ because they are now with the Thorton core, as I had
talked to AMD myself and they confimed that they will not work in the KT7A`S..
Reason, they are the same as the Barton core without the 512K
of Cache and the 166x2 FSB. So as this thread has gone on for
quite some time I would make sure you are getting a Thoughobred B.
Here is the CPU #AXDA2400DKV3C

Hope this helps every-one the way it has helped me...

So I guess the answer is 'no'!

thanks

Yeah though I'd like to hear that from at least 1 other source too.

Btw the FSB doesn't matter ,could compensate with a higher mutliplier & use a 133FSB (assuming their not locked)

I'm gonna try that Applbred Duron I've got anyway;)

Tried it & seems to work fine ,detecting the right vcore though it does say 'unknown cpu type' XP1600 (its finding its right def clock of 1.4GHz anway;)).
Thinking about it this doesn't prove much for the Thortons as the Applebreds are just Tbred Bs with some cache disabled

Oh well at least I know now.
