Abit KT7A and KT7A-RAID motherboard problem and AMD-approved status

ok guys, i've been reading on amdzone that amd has stopped sanctioning the Abit KT7A motherboard for its athlon processors. they report the problem as a random soft-booting problem. i just got off the phone with an AMD tech rep concerning a return. in the course of our conversation, i asked him about these kt7as and reported that the problem is they have incompatiblity with certain Athlon 1 GHz chips. not the 900, 950, or 1.1s, just the 1 GHz. he said both sides can't figure out why, but he says the board is good, just not for 1 GHz chips. head's up out there, ok?

I've already make arrangements too buy a kt7 raid used from a friend(end of Jan. but he's not selling until mar 7th) and I need to confirm that the 1.2 G I already bought is gonna work in that board. This is not very cool at all

from what the guy at AMD said, it only affects the 1.0 GHz chips. i have a 900 MHz on a KT7A-RAID. it is clocked at 1066 and it is rock-solid stable. you shouldn't have any problems. abit and amd are working to fix this problem, but they are exactly usre why it is. it is not even all 1 GHz chips... just a subset of them.

sure it have problem with 1gig
cos my 1gig@1.380 running supper stable just like nerver overclock before. I can do what ever I like with this sucker.😉

i don't know what the glitch is: apparently when 1 ghz (not OCed mind you) are put in, at certain voltages they don't work when they should. that's all the guy really knew, but i don't know anyone with this problem. i did have a problem with one of these boards: a KT7A came DOA from a vendor. it kept giving checksum errors and when you try to go BIOS is would go to a black screen with a blue bar. shorting the CMOS for 10 min with battery unplugged didn't even help. tried it with an athlon 900, duron 800, and duron 600 and nothing gave. other than that experience, 3 other Abit KT7A-RAIDs have no problems with a variety of chips.

ding dong I noticed that you had to turn your cpu down a bit there eh? 🙁 I think I know why too. I've been having problems like hell too. Let me know what has happened since i saw your last post about being at 1410. Thanks

My kt7a-raid works great! Got my 1.2 up to 1.33 with no problems except I need a tad bit more air circulating in my case...but that's easily solved with another fan.

Marooned your are right cos. lately I use Flask program try to make some divx movie. and it not realy stable at 1410 mhz but 1380mhz it supper rock , I can make movie and listen mp3 and burn cd and download song at napster without a problem. but with 1410 it give me problem that why i slower a little bit😉 actuaclly my cpu can post 1.477 and barely capture the picture and seen than it nerver post again Link to 1gig@1477 of my cpu
