Abit kt7 video problems

I have just installed an abit kt7-raid motherboard with 128Mb cas2 SDRAM and a Duron 700MHz. I then put in an Abit siluro GF256 card. These are the only components (apart from keyboard and mouse) attached to the system.

On the boot up nothing was displayed on the monitor. I turned the computer off and took out the video card and put it back in. On the second boot text was displayed on the screen and everything was fine.

Now when the machine is booted it has gone back to displaying nothing on the screen. I have tried taking the card out and putting it back in several times, and I know the monitor is not faulty.

Does anyone have any ideas as to why this might be happening or which component is at fault?

Thanks in advance for any help.

Sounds like the AGP connector isn't making good contact somewhere.

try to blow it out with some compressed air and wipe down the connectors on the APG card (carefully!)

The card isn't making good contact with the slot. Sometimes when screwing in the card, it may get pulled out of the connector a little. This happened to me, on this board in a Inwin S500. Double check to see if the entire card is in the entire length of the slot. Mine was out a little on the end. And always remove the power cord or shut of the PSU when doing any card add/remove.

Thanks for the help but I have tried pushing it done as far as it will go. I have also discovered something else very odd.

I have managed to get a picture by turning on the computer and then, about 1 second later turning on the monitor. This works everytime.

If you are too late or turn it on too early the monitor just goes it to standby mode. It is a Mitsubishi 73.

I think once the system is running properly and the drivers are all installed the problem will go away (I hope!).
