Abit KT7 - Two attempts to boot...

Every single time I try to boot my Abit KT7, the first attempt just hangs. Everything will spin up, lights come on, but the post beep doesn't happen, thus the monitor doesn't come on and it just hangs. I can manually turn it off (hold in power button 7 seconds) and fire it up again and it boots straight into windows no problem. I'm running the system below

Duron 600 -> 970
Geforce 2 GTS 32mb
256 Crucial PC133@cas2
SB!live
3Com Nic
Adaptec 2940UW
Plex 8/20, 40
Seagate 9.1 7,200 scsi

This is like a ritual for me, the first attempt is always a no go but the second attempt boots like a charm. I've tried changing ram, setting the Duron back to 600, pulling out all cards but the video and scsi, blah blah blah. I'm reading that others are having the same types of trouble, but I haven't really read of a solution yet.
Thanks!

IS your power supply up to snuff? Thats the only thing I can think of if everything else is good to go..

Yep, I've exchanged it with a solid 300w to ensure that wasn't the culprit.

I had the same problem with my abit kt7a-raid board. I just changed the i/o voltage from 3,4 to 3,3V.

Wow, I have the exact same problem with my KA7 and Athlon 650.

I don't think it's the PSU either, I've had Duron at a gig and other Athlons at various speeds, including with this motherboard and never had this problem until I got this CPU?

I'll try the I/O voltage thing, any other suggestions would be great!

I've got the exact same problem. It's got to be the power supply, although I just got a brand new Enermax and I'm having the same problem. I had all of the same components on an MSI 6321 without any probiems. So I think it's either some setting in the BIOS, the PS, or the board itself. I'll also try the voltage and see if that helps ..

Well,
I tried to voltage adjustment, and they didn't change anything - same problem. Any other suggestions anyone?

Redo the L1 bridges! This time don't use pencil. (I'm assuming ;))

Well, I actually fixed the problem. Although, I'm not 100% sure what I did or why it worked. :)

What I changed was all in the bios. From the first option (I forget the name), where you specify the processor speed, I had kept mine at default (which was 500 mhz). I never thought to change it because I posted at 1 Ghz - so I didn't think it mattered. So I changed that to 1 Ghz in the bios. Don't ask me why this would make a difference... I also knocked down my AGP Aperture Size from 64 to 4, but there is definitely no reason I can think of why that would do anything.
In any case, I boot up fine all of the time now. I went through all the power settings, where I thought the problem would be, but never changed anything there. My only guess is that if the processor speed doesn't match the setting in the bios, maybe there is some voltage adjustment that takes place. I honestly don't know. But it wouldn't hurt to make sure you processor specs match, if they don't already ..

I redid the bridges with defogger gunk instead of the pencil and it boots great now.

Thanks!!

I build computers for a living, i run into that alot when im lazy and i plug in the powerswitch upside down. Just flip it over and it should solve your problem.

I cured mine by going into BIOS and setting the boot drive to "AUTO" instead of letting the detect and put in the settings and now it works perfectly.
