Abit KT7 - temp sensor too high?

Hey guys,

I just recieved my KT7 today and I noticed that the temp sensor for the cpu is sitting quite high - so high I cannot seat the processor in the socket. Should I just go ahead and bend down the temp sensor, or is it a manufacturing defect? Help!

You can go ahead and bend it down to make sure your CPU can be seated properly. Just make sure it presses up against the bottom of the CPU for an accurate reading.

Ok, that's what I assumed - so the temp sensor should be touching the back of the cpu, correct? I was just concerned that the temp sensor might "scratch" or damage the cpu somehow, by nicking the surface perhaps. Any input on this?

Thanks again for your quick response!

You won't damage the cpu at all. The 'working' part of the cpu is the die on the top. Athlon cpus are 'flipped'. On the other hand, if you chip a bit from the core on the top, its "Good-Bye Mr Chips".

I had to bend the thermistor, when i first tried to insert it, i put some pressure and it just would move, there is a mark on the bottom of the processor, but i guess that wasn't important, as it is working

I guess the reason why I was asking was because I was having some stability problems - my system would hang when i would exit the bios, wouldn't run for more then 10 minutes, etc etc...what I ended up doing was having the motherboard replaced for another KT7, and the new one works fine. I just wanted to eliminate any other reasons as to why the system was unstable first.

Thanks to everyone for the replies!
