Abit-kt7-raid Woes (with memory)

I have a abit-kt7-raid with a generic 133 mhz 256mb. Whenever I install a new piece of hardware -- i.e cdrom -- or on certain random occasions, my system loop beeps with no start up screen; then i have to remove the memory module and stick it back in for it to work again. What could be wrong?

I don't mind doing this if it weren't for the fact that removing and installing the memory takes the dexterity of a woodland gnome with magic cape of +32 dex. I swear next time I'm doing this I will shove my hand through the Fu**ing board and crack the F***** in bajillion pieces.

Is there a way to simulate or lie to the motherboard into thinking that, indeed, i have remove the mother****er without having to physically performing the daring feats beyond my daring. Is there a way to flash the memory module or shutting off all poor so... jesus i don't even get this. what kind of backwood redneck solution is this, refitting a component. it's about as valid as banging it with a large hammer. Please help me, god can't live a day without high heavens cursing my waking moment.

Damn it i have to edit out my superfluous cusses. THERE WAS ONCE A MAN NAMED ENUS.

Not only do I have the exact same mobo, but I really like what you posted. LOL! Nice wording and imagery! "Dexterity of a woodland gnome with a magic cape of dexterity +32) that is classic! OK, you might not like this but.........it's a bad idea to run this motherboard with noname RAM. It's pickier than my son's mother...that's pretty darn picky. Go to Crucial.com and pickup a 256mb stick of PC133/CAS2. You and your mobo will be very happy. Put it in the "0" DIMM slot. Set the bios:

Cas=2
4-way interleave=enabled
Timing BANK 0=FAST
Force 4-way interleave+yes
Memory drive strength=default ( i think it's 2 )

You'll be good to go.

This is a great mobo. Just ensure you have good memory and the latest Via drivers. Feel free to PM me if need be. Good luck!

Thanks,

I would like to shamelessly bump this thread in hopes of receiving an answer that doesn't require me shelling out 60 dollers for a name brand, which was the price of the noname memory - which i bought 10 days ago. I AM A MORON.

I also have doubts of it being a memory problem, because it is functional most(all, i couldn't tell) of the time. Only in instances where I modify some hardware does it require my services. Anyone else know what would cause a mobo to loop beep? What is the deal?

I have the same MB, and I too have had memory problems (see my post about only being able to use 384MB of RAM). If I install anything more than that, I get lockups and general system instability. The only solution that has been offered is that the board doesn't get along with generic RAM any better than two trailer trash hookers on Jerry Springer (not a pretty sight). I hope someone has another answer, because I would hate to have such a good MB marred by this kind of problem.

Have you deleted the PNP files from your Windows\INF directory?
And
the DRV files from your System\IOUSBUS or something Directory.

LMK in a PM.

This is what I believe the problem to be.

Sorry for the long delay in hassling you, but what is "Have you deleted the PNP files from your Windows\INF directory?" or "the DRV files from your System\IOUSBUS or something Directory. LMK in a PM."

What do they have to do with the computer? Are there success stories of this kind? I don't want to create new pains for my limp, callous fingers.

Go to the KT7 FAQ and read up on this. I know when I get loops all I do is delete the 7 files that they talk about in this FAQ.

I'm running generic memory, 2 sticks of 256MB, and I don't have this problem. You are removing power when you add the hardware, right? I don't mean just turning off the computer, but turning off the powerstrip it's plugged into or removing the power cord.
