Abit KT7 Raid vs MSI Pro2a

Any recommendations on which board I should get either the kt7 raid or the pro2a. I have a isa scsi card so I was thinking of getting the kt7 raid instead. I've heard both are really stable and four ide channel may come in handy if I get an IDE burner (burn proof) and extra HDs. I am planning on getting a Duron 600-700 and o/c it up near 900/1ghz. Any recommendations and reasons for them would be greatly appreciated.

ABIT!
It's sweet, and it works fine.
It's not so fast as long as you don't set up the bios properly, but then works perfectly, and is the best EVER for o/c.

I'll second the MSI board. I have one myself and I've never had a problem out of it. High quality and very stable. Plus, it's only about $115 at most online stores that carry it.

Hehe, the Abit zealots always come in with nothing to back up their claims of all this wonderfulness. All they can say is Abit! Buwahahahaha....like a herd of sheep. 😀

Well I can say that I've had no problems with mine, and that's good enough for me to recommend it to somebody. I haven't tried that MSI board, so I'm going to reserve judgment on it.

Thanks all for the recommendations. Hard decision because right now I have a SCSI burner with a SCSI controller ISA card. I would have to leave the SCSI card/burner in my old computer (not too big of a problem I guess) if I got that MSI Pro2a board because it has no ISA slots.

Do any of you know of any places that sell the microstar pro2a (the one with the 686b via chip w/ ata 100) I saw two places on pricewatch when I search for "pro2". PC Progress doesn't seem to have it on their site, and ATACOM has expensive shipping. There is also openlinx.com but they are out of stock til next Tues.

Thanks again to everyone who posted.

The KT7 is ok, but the MSI seems to be more stable, higher quality. My first Abit board, been pretty good, not an Epox though. If you need that ISA slot why not get the 8KTA-2?

The MSI Pro2-A does have a ISA on few models...But right now they are so sparce, it's hard enought just to get one with that stupid Modem Riser slot.

I got my Pro2-A at OpenLinx....small company, but they get it here in two and 1/2 days and it looks great.

Hey caenus.
compare these.
openlinx 129 plus 5, spartantech 118 plus 13, atacom 120 plus 15, and openlinx doesn't have it on stock.

I had a KT7-RAID for about a month and replaced it with a Pro2 (not the 'A' version). The MSI is far better in my experiences. No crashes at all to date (touch wood) and it's taken everything I've thrown at it without complaining - Soundblaster, Promise ATA100 card, internal modem, GTS2, Linux, etc, etc. The only minor issue I had was some IRQs causing a lock up when I used my internal modem. My external one worked fine, so I guessed that the IRQs were being shared between the internal modem and something else (Sandra told me it was the USB controller) so I sorted that out and it works fine! Maybe it's not as fast as the KT7-RAID but I think it's worth it because of the greater reliability...
