Abit KT7-RAID + T-bird 1.1GHz, CPU dead after 6 days?

Abit KT7-RAID with T-bird 1.1GHz, FOP32-1 (lapped), Artic Silver, Enermax 330W in AOpen HX08 case.
CPU ran fine for 6 days without reboots, (linux 2.4.1) and then it suddenly hung and wouldn't POST again. Fans, hds etc are starting up, but no video. Tried with two different AGP cards (took out everything else). Tried without hd, cdrom and floppy. CPU fan is in fan1 (tried different ones with no change).
CPU Temp was 40c idle and 47c full.
I had a Duron 700 before which worked just fine with this motherboard (WW BIOS, flashed a month ago), so I primarily suspect the CPU.
Any tips on things I could try before I send the CPU back?

Try clearing the CMOS on the board. Do you get any beeps when the system starts up? If so, you can refer to the manual for beep codes to help diagnose the problem.

if you still have the duron, put it in and see if it is indeed the cpu that is causing issues. also, you could try putting the athlon into the another board. with all that said, i think your processor is dead ... although i don't know how it would happen. the temp reading seem good and it shouldn't have run for 6 days if your hsf was incorrectly placed.

sorry man, not much help here.

wait ... try clearing the cmos and see if you get the no cpu beeps.

I've tried clearing the CMOS with no luck. There are no beeps either.
I'll check it in a friends computer, guess there's not much else to do if it doesn't work there.
Thanks for the tips.
