I have recently started to upgrade my system to a:
Athlon Thunderbird Socket-A CPU 950 Mhz and
Abit KT7-RAID Socket-A Mobo.
My existing components are:
RAM 320 MB SDRAM-100 (PNY mfg.)
HD 1 x Western Digital 10 GB 5400 rpm (Master IDE 1)
HD 1 x Western Digital 20 GB 7200 rpm (Slave IDE 1)
CD Memorex 48x CD (Master IDE 2)
Burner Memorex 4x4x8x CD Burner (Slave IDE 2)
Video Voodoo 3dfx 3000 (AGP1 slot)
Ethernet Kingston Etherlink Card (DSL line; PCI slot 2)
Sound Soundblaster Live! (PCI slot 3)
Modem Zoom Fax/Modem Kflex56k (ISA1 slot)
Power Enlight Corp. Power Supply 250 W.
OS Windows 98 v. 4.10

Upon windows boot up the following occurs:
New hardware located, Creative SB16 Emulation, Windows is installing
software for your new hardware. Then I get the dreaded blue window reading

"A fatal exception 0E has occurred at 0028:C2A20510. The current application
will be terminated."

Pressing Ctl + Alt + Delete gives this detail,
"An exception 0E has occurred at 0028:C2A20510 in VXD---. This was called
from 0028:C009B3D0 in VXD VKD(01) + 000001D0."

I can have access to the rest of the system in Safe mode. All my current
components work fine with my old Mobo, EPoX EP-MVP3G-M and a AMD K6-2 450Mhz.
I have tried moving my Soundblaster card from PCI slot 5 to 4 to 3 and still
get the same fault.

I would appreciate any assistance with this issue.

email me here::confused:

Can't disable emulation of Sound Blaster Live!

Do you have anyhthing using IO 220, IRQ 5 or DMA 1?

Make the Soundblaster the FIRST thing you install (except for the video card, of course) and see if you can duplicate the problem.

I believe that IRQ is reserved for USB on the abit board. And yes you can disable the emulation, just go into the system control panel and disable it in hardware profile. Also this is a great site to find out info on abit KT7 boards.

Good luck Glp1

You're right, glp1del... ASSUMING YOU CAN BOOT UP IN THE FIRST PLACE, but if you read the initial post you'd see where the problem was that he would get a Fatal Exception error upon boot and can only get in in Safe Mode.

As far as I can remember, I don't think that's something you can disable in Safe Mode.

Prove me wrong, though! :p I don't care!
