I have an older Abit KT-7 Raid motherboard overclocking a 750 T-Bird to 933, running nicely. I was think of upgrading my box inexpensively, and thinking of upgrading the processor to the fastest one possible. The problem is, I am not sure what that is. My board is not the newer, KT7A, and that is all the information they have on ABIT's site. Basically, what is the biggest bang for the buck I can get, and is it even worth it?

The Kt7 Raid uses via kt133 chipset, so you are limited then to processors which run at 100 Mhz fsb.
Therefore the fastest processor you can slap in there is Athlon Thunderbird 1.4 Ghz.
These procesors are fast, but they are running very hot so make sure to get a big ass heatsink for it. Also they are kinnda rare these days, and therfore expensive.
you can get it here for $94.00 with shippment
This is good online vendor, I bought couple of CPUs from them.
Overall it would be a good upgrade.

A better fit would to get a 1.3Ghz Duron. Yes it will have a less L2 Cache, BUT it will have SSE, run cooler, and have the same stuff the Athlon XP has just at a 100Mhz FSB.

You can get a 1.3Ghz Duron for less than $50 shipped. Better bang for your buck.

Just make sure you have the newwest Bios.
