While flashing the new WW bios the computer suddenly shut down. Now won't boot at all. I've tried resetting the CMOS and removed the battery. Is this thing a total loss?
I've done many bios updates but this is a first for me. Any suggestions or help would be appreciated.

Seriously though, does it even try to access the floppy? If not, plan on shippin' it to Abit.

What went wrong? Did you boot from floppy with nothing but: Command.com, IO.sys & Msdos.sys?
Replacement chip is only $10 at Abit California: 510-623-0500.
Or, get another board to "hot-swap flash" the damaged chip. Use dental floss to yank out the "good" chip, so that the malfunctioning chip can be put in socket, ready for re-flashing.
Alternatively, you can set up a floppy with an autoexec.bat file to re-flash.
Good luck..

When I hit the power switch, it powers up for about 10 seconds then shuts down. I did the flash according to Abit's instructions. It was looking normal and got right to the end of the writing part and just died. Thanks for the help.

I read about this at AMDZone-your not the only one with this problem with the WW bios. Might want to check the forums there.

Try reflashing from DOS floppy, running the flash from autoexec.bat. If the BIOS is not completely gone, so floppy can be accessed, it often works. Directions are on the Abit site, I believe. When you do it, nothing shows on the screen, so let it sit for a few minutes (to give it time to work, if it's working) before you reboot (after saying a short prayer).

Disconnect all fans except the one on the processor

here is a clip from the WW text file:

"!WARNING! If the CPU fan reading of fan header #1
lower than 2000 rpm, or the fan is connected on
header #2/#3/#4 or directly to power supply unit,
this BIOS will automatically SHUTDOWN THE POWER
IN 10 SECONDS. This design protect the processor
from damage by heat."

CalebTG, YOU DA MAN!! I had the CPU fan hooked up to header 2. That was ok in the old bios, but not in WW. Many thanks to all who replied, now I won't spend Christmas mourning for a dead mobo.

Yep, I was astonished to read that in the info file myself.

Glad your system runs, I know my holidays would be dull without mine!
