Abit KT7-RAID and Video Cards??

Two things -

1. If you are running an Abit KT7-RAID mainboard...what video cards are you using?

2. I just attempted to upgrade my ailing NVidia Riva TNT 16mb card that I have running on my Abit KT7-RAID mainboard. It runs great, gives me max of about 60fps...down to 20-30fps. But...its past its prime.

Purchased a VisionTek Geforce2 GTS 32mb card - and went to install it. I did the normal setting of all vid drivers back to standard windows drivers - popped old card out, popped new card in - selected the Detonator3 drivers...and off to check it out.

Popped in a 3D progie and my screen gets a bunch of colorful stripes on it (looks like pinstripes windows background), and I promptly freeze. So I am thinking there is a fix for this. Hard reset, load back up, and as soon as I start reading the visiontek website - same thing.

I can now not even boot the PC with that video card - I get a black screen and my monitor will not come out of standby. However - I put the old card back in, and am running with latest drivers in about one minute.

Is this card just a piece of crap, or what can anyone tell me?

Thanks all.

I can tell you this. I have an athlon 1.1 ghz, with an abit KT7 raid board and I am using a GE Force 2 MX card with 32 mbs and it locks up when I enter my favorite 3D games... It has something to do with the AGP on the board I think... I also cant get my Sound Blaster live card to work with this board either... I think it is a big POS

I have a KT7 Raid since it first came out. Video cards that I have used in this system: Matrox G400, Elsa Erazor X (Geforce SDR), Voodoo5 5500, Asus V7700 Deluxe (Geforce 2 DDR). They all work fine. I also have had a sound blaster live, live oem, and live X-gamer in the system. They all work without problems.

So I guess your mileage may vary.

another reason to make sure that you can RMA your board. from all i have heard, ABiT's quality control blows, so you probably just got a funky agp slot. i'd send it back and ask for a replacement

Agree completely on the RMA comment...but the AGP slot is working fine. I tried two older cards in it, and come right up on detonator3 drivers.

Stumped on this one...taking my new vid card to work tomorrow to try it in various work boxes.

Thanks all.

I'm still running a Voodoo3 in my agp slot.

btw: This board does seem to be somewhat picky with sound cards though. When I first bought it, I tried my MX300 and a Sound Blaster 16PNP ISA and neither would work for more than 30 seconds of sound, then silence. Finally bought a X-Gamer and it works great!

If your running windows2000, there is a fix on the Microsoft site to fix a known AGP problem when using a VIA chipset. But I do not think you need a special patch under windows9x, except the VIA 4-in-1 set. And you might whant to use the regular AGP setting when installing the VIA 4-in-1 set under windows98, because if you set it to turbo, you might experience lockups...

There is a known conflict with the SB Live and the chipset.
Have you tried an older set of drivers for the GTS? Some people a reporting driver problems with certain drivers. I don't have one so I'm not up on it right now. Have you installed the latest Via 4in1 driver?
I have that board and my Radeon works fine with it once I installed updated AGP drivers (Via 4in1).

We had two visiontek Geforce2 at work. One had the exact same symptoms as you are describing. We ended up ruling that it was a bad video card. Visiontek quailty sucks. Or it could be just Visiontek + VIA combo sucks.
