Anyone having problems with this setup? I have yet to be able to install ANY windows operating system with this combo. Both when using the Highpoint controller and the standard IDE ... is there a conflict between KT7-RAID/Maxtor setup, and if so is there a fix? If not, i may have to return the mobo and get the Asus A7V.
thnx

I have a dual boot 98/NT4 I had the same problem with NT did not like the High Point but I was able to install it on the VIA side. Then I installed the Highpoint Drier then brought it back to the High point. I would check my ribbon cables change them if you have spares.
P.S. What is the error message you are getting? :p

I am having problems installing any operating system on ANY kind of drive with the KT7. It locks up or errors out under win95 install, win98 install and even a win2k install. (win2k says something about a non-fully compliant ACPI motherboard)

I can install win98 on the same harddrive with a BX board, but not with my KT7. I had the same problem installing any os with a Matsonic VIA motherboard as well, which probably uses the same HD controller.

Let me know if you figure out what's going on.

I had no trouble installing either windows 98 SE or windows ME.

This is my setup:

T-bird 800
KT7-RAID
128MB Mushkin PC133 CAS2
2 x Maxtor 20.4GB 7200rpm ATA/100
VisionTek GeForce2 MX 32MB
InWin A500
PAL6035 heatsink
SB Live Value

The drivers are just the latest from the net, including the VIA 4-in-1 driver, etc.

I've tweaked the BIOS according to
[L=Paul's KT7 FAQ. http://casema.net/~howland/kt7faq/kt7faq.htm[/L]
There's tons of information here, especially about conflicts, etc.

By the way, I get 56000-57000 kps consistently.

I didn't have any problems whatsoever installing my Maxtor 52049H4. I have placed this one on IDE3 of my Highpoint RAID-controller. No problems installing WinMe.

Good luck...

mnphase2001,

I had the exact same problem. Exact same HD. Every time that I enabled DMA in Windows ME, I soon got a total freeze up. A few days ago I moved my HD to the Highpoint controller and so far so good. Once you do that and setup the Highpoint bios, the drive runs at UDMA 66. Benchmarks great.

Good luck.

My KT7-RAID mobo locked up on me using both Win98SE and Win2000. I finally tracked the problem down to my video card (Intel 740 chipset) being incompatible with the mobo. Since my Voodoo2 wouldn't work with the latest drivers anyways, I bought a new video card (TNT2M64). I haven't had any problems since. After installing the Nvidia 5.32 drivers, I had to re-apply the VIA AGP driver because I couldn't change screen resolution.

I have an old ATA33 4.3GB Maxtor attached to the IDE0 controller. When I tried to move it over to the Highpoint interface, the drive started doing something weird. Whenver the system copied a big file over from a CD, the CD would stop reading, the drive light would be steady on for 10 seconds, stop for 2 seconds, and repeat the process again. I think that had something to due with having an old HD maybe?..

Good luck!
