Abit KT7 + Promise RAID Card = Best RAID-Motherboard Option

I just wanted to let everyone know that I think a combination of the NON-RAID Abit-KT7 and a Promise RAID add-in card is a better option that the KT7-RAID. I originally tried the KT7-RAID and had nothing but trouble getting it to actually detect the harddrives connected to the RAID controller much less actually setting up a RAID array. I returned it and purchased the NON-RAID Abit KT7 and a Promise Fasttrak-100 controller card. I had not problems at all with this combo. Also the Promise it much easier to setup and use. I think that the HighPoint controller has problems with some harddrives. I have seen a large number of posts in various forums of people having trouble with it. Anyways, if you are thinking about getting the Abit motherboard for RAID, I would go with the NON-RAID version and get a Promise add-in card. The Fasttrak-100 is a little bit more expensive, but the hassle and time you save are worth it. Just some advice from a person who had too much trouble with the Highpoint controller. Take care.

Actually, according to the review of the Promise Fasttrak-100 is slower and more expensive than the Highpoint 370.

I think that is a personnal preference. I had the KT7 with the non Raid ATA 100 Promice controller, it unfortunately wasen't stable for me.
I did get a bad board, I sent it back for the KT7 Raid.
The difference was almost null in ata 100 specs, I would have liked to get the Promice Raid controller though.
I'm glad your system works. Most likely an awesome setup
It was my thinking also, just got lucky with a good KT7 Raid board.

I have the Abit BP6 with the HPT366 onboard and I have problems with my IBM 46 Gb drive under NT 4.0. I bought the Promise ATA100 controller and everything is fine now.

I also have the KT7 Raid but I haven't tested it yet. Hope Highpoint fixed the problems with their new controller.

And Robinhung is right: HPT's controller are faster, cheaper but not so compatible compared to the Promise controller.
