Abit KT7 or MSI K7T Pro2?

If you want quality the choice is clear. Course you might consider that you only need "a bit' of quality.

Are you implying that Abit is "a bit" compared to MSI in terms of quality? Hehe, I am agree with you.

They're both a tie in my book. Right now it's very hard to find the Pro2 so I would personally buy the Abit. It has a bad rep on these forums and has gotten to the point now where people are really laying a bad rep for it, but if you look at Anand's review, you'll see he loved it. The only problem with the Abit is of course people say the "RMA rate is horrible", bad quality control, etc.. but I have had no problems with my BX-based BF6. Now, count me lucky, but it's been great. The MSI is basically everything you'll want, except it has all of the onboard sound crap by default as well as a CNR slot; which I doubt I would personally ever use. The MSI board, however, is cheaper and probably more stable - I would also speculate that it has less problems as far as DOA issues.

If you can find it, go with the MSI.

I have no complain about Abit KT7. I'm using it now. But I have reasons why I want to switch to MSI KT7 Pro2.

1. 3 3900uF and 4 4700uF high quality capacitors on the board. You can only find this in Intel's mobo. (When Henry Kuo tested the board. It didn't crash at all within 24 hours)
2. My personal trust to MSI.
3. Fuzzy Logic III software
4. Live BIOS

😀

I can get this motherboard and I will.

If both are available at roughly the same price, then you'll certainly want the Microstar board for the added stability. Heck, Anand even uses a K7T Pro to run this forum!

One thing annoys me though. I really hate it that the fans are not turned off in System standby. I think it's because VIA doesn't implement this feature.

MSI hands down in my opinion...

If you want to OVER-clock to the max! Then get the Abit...

If you don't want to crash over and over, get the MSI...

Besides the MSI has a lower cost...

If you already have a stable and functioning K7t I don't see the point in getting a k7t pro2. I'd wait for the 760 mobos....

I'm returning my KT7 .. too many compability problems with my IBM GXP Hard Disk. And I'm not even running on a RAID config 🙁

Will be getting an ASUS ... 'cause I can't find MSI's here where I live 🙁

Definetly go for the MSI K7T PRO2 ,I had a similiar choice between Abit KT7,ASUS A7V & MSI K7T PRO,well I went for MSI K7T PRO which I`m very happy with on stability etc,btw my last board was Abit & I will definetly try & stay with MSI if they can keep this very high standard of stability up on their boards.

🙂

Please post where! We're configuring 2 Thunderbird 800 workstations at work with 256MB Micron PC133, G450 Matrox boards, Hitachi 19", Intel 10/100, Logitech Keyboard + Mice, InWin case w/ 300W, SB Live! Value Digital all from mwave, but we can't find the Pro2 on the site. If ANYBODY knows where to get this board anytime in the near future please post, email, or PM me.

Thanks!

I've currently got a KT7-RAID and boy does it suck, big time. It's in a system with a Tbird 800 @800, GTS2, 2x75GXPs and SB Value 1024 and I've had no end of trouble with it - all from Windows, not from Linux, which likes it a lot! From Windows, I get hang-ups on startup (it displays the wallpaper and then stays there - I then have to reboot and it runs scandisk for me) and sometimes it reboots itself when Windows is starting up. It's all right at the moment but I don't trust it an inch.

Which is why I ordered a K7T Pro2 and Promise Ultra 100 card this lunchtime! It's due to arrive on Monday whilst I'm hard at work so I will spend a fun Monday night rebuilding my computer. You guys should all come over to this side of the pond (UK). I had no trouble getting my Pro 2 from my usual supplier... 🙂

Neither. Get the K7T Turbo, with 686B(ATA100) and RAID. Oh yes the long awaited KT7-RAID killer. Im sure its out over there in Asia, Charles.

The specs are predicatable, same as Pro2 with RAID support. I saw the report over at Viahardware.com, check their comdex report out.

The K7T Turbo is a good board, as long as you stay away from that RAID controller, it's just as bad as the one on the KT7.

I would still recommend the K7T PRO2, as we really do not know if there will be any issues with HDD incompatibilities with the ATA-100 controller, i think there will.

In any case, stay away from RAID 0, it really is not worth it.

What do you mean by that? MSI does use crap HiPoint controllers.
