ABIT KT7 FSB Overclocking Possibilities

I have an ABIT KT7 with 512 of PC100 memory. I think ABIT is only allowing me 100/33 FSB speed and I want to try something faster.
Overclocking of the CPU speed cause the machine not to even boot unless I hold down the insert key and then get back into the bios and set everything back to normal.

Any suggestions on how I can speed this Mobo up even when the Processor speed check holds me back?

sounds like you might be under cooled and remember the kt7 is only good for 110 fsb or so

Your best bet at overclocking is to unlock the cpu multipliers

Abit KT7 use KT133 and from what I tried and heard
from the forum nobody can do more than 115
112 is the most stable in my experience.

Forgot to say ,disable 'speed error hold' in the bios

Yep, i'll agree with Assimilator1, the easiest way is to overclock with multiplier, and also disable Speed Error Hold


Some KT7 boards will reach about 103 at max, some will reach about 112max. My KT7 can run my Athlon 1.0 @ 110*12above for 1430MHz (110*13)

But, as they say, YMMV (your milage may vary)

I remember trying to overclock my fathers old PC ,an Athlon 700 on an Abit KA7 (KX133 chipset) ,this was the earlier brother of the KT7.It failed to overclock at just 105MHz!:disgust:

The KT7 is FSB challanged. I small Socket A or stock Pentium HS on the Northbridge helps. My best KT7 would do 117 MHz FSB. One of the folks at Hard Forum has a KT7 running at 123 MHz FSB. Without a pelt on the Northbridge, this is the best I have heard of.

i agree, i have kt7-r at 100 fsb = joy 101 = freakout
i connected L1 bridge and can run my 900 @ 1000 but i had to give up on the fsb

One of the first things i did when i wanted to overclock via FSB is to remove that "heatsink" on the north bridge. Shouldn't be too messy, there won't be any thermal goop or pad there to clean up!

I have a ThermalTake Blue Orb on my north bridge with the standard thermal goop you get with it, but i haven't got the fan plugged in because i want to keep it quiet.

Before i did that, it wouldn't even POST at 107, but like this it will POST and get into Windows at 111FSB, but it's not stable, is at 110.

But, each board is different, some you may be able to get high, some you just plainly can't.

Also, i'd recommend you get the lastest BIOS from Abit, that could sort out any problems/bugs you might have in your board, but, there's no guarantees


My KT7 and Duron 700 is, at the weekend, going to be transformed into a (hopefully) silent DVD/DivX player to go in the front room!
