Cause:
My game of counterstrike comes to an abrupt end when my 3 yr old pushes the power button.
"But daddy, I was trying to fix it"

Computer will not boot.
Something is fried.

Abit kt7...via 133
Amd 750 ...not oc
128mg micron sdram 133

The computer will post.... shows v-card info, memory test ok, nvram updates.
Then a blank screen most of the time.
I've rebooted over 100 times and been past the dpni? update screen twice.
One of those times I flashed the bios. I've reset the cmos. I've swapped memory. I've used a different v-card. Everything has been taken off except v-card, memory and CPU with the same results.
The most telling symptom is that when I enter cmos if the computer freezes most of the time.

I'm aware I'll have to replace something. I'm just not sure how to tell if its the bios chip/rom, the motherboard, or the CPU.

Any help will be appreciated.

my best call would be that it is your cpu. i figure when your child pushed the button it went into sleep mode, which turns all the fans off but the processor was either too hot or was getting looping instructions somehow.

although, if it were your processor or ram the computer wouldn't post afterwards. i don't think its the hd, ram or power supply because the syptoms don't indicate problems, and i haven't seen an improper shutdown cause issues with these. this brings us to the cmos/motherboard ... i have no clue how a cmos fizzles. the hard way would be to take the parts out and put them in another computer if you can.

sorry man, i am just trying to help you reason it out ... this may confuse you more.

Well.....
I pulled my other case over and plugged in its PS, which did not seem to help.
I've contacted the reseller, M-Wave, who offered to RMA and ship to Abit to have them check it out. I was given a 3 to 4 week turnaround.
I tried contacting Abit support at 510-492-0968 but was on hold twice for over an hour. I read in another thread that Abit is supposedly horrible with support/RMA.

If there is no other way, I will have to ship it out through M-Wave. It may cost my marriage, as my wife is way pissed that I'm moving in on her computer now.:)

Well, it doesn't sound like a hardware issue... I mean, it posts, so in theory everything is functioning... I have to agree with joeyjojoe that i've never seen a shutdown do so much damage...

What it does like though is a heat issue, I've run my cpu with no fan and then again with the fan loosely attached. What happens is exactly what you've described, a post then blank screen or u enter your BIOS and it locks up. It seems like that can't be the issue though, seeing as how it worked, u didn't open it up and change anything, then all of a sudden it doesn't work, but i'd still check it out, maybe reattach your hs/f and apply more or better thermal paste. It's worth a try, at the very least.

Of course, the best way to find out is to have another board, chip and ram to swap, but that's not always feasable.

Good Luck!
