Gday

Just wondering whether anyone knows of any errors / fixes associated with the Abit KT7 [non raid], using the VIA chipset, VT82C686A and UDMA mode.

Currently the motherboard does not allow the Primary Master hard drive to run in UDMA mode, whereas the same drive runs in this mode using the different, KA7 [slot A] motherboard.

1. In windows 2000 Pro, the drive is detected as PIO mode, despite the BIOS detecting it as LBA, UDMA 66.
2. In windoes 98SE, when DMA is enabled the computer lags and hangs considerably, and is basically inoperable.

The following processes have been tried, and NONE resolve the issue.

1. BIOS update, both UL and TL versions
2. Service Pack 4.24 AND 4.25A
3. W2k and W98se updates and service packs
4. Removed all other drives / components leaving the Primary Master.

I have emailed Abit, however im still awaiting an answer. Any help on this issue would be greatly appreciated. Please email me, mikkyj@goconnect.net if you have any answers, there are others i know who are also experiencing the same problem, so im happy to know im not alone, yet no one else has an answer either.

Cheers

Mik

had the same problem...here was my fix for win2k. unplug all drives from the IDE connectors...then add the HD to the **secondary ide port** (don't ask me why it worked for me). Boot into windows win2k and check for UDMA...if it says UDMA but it still lags then goto www.tweak3d.net for the reg hack that enables UDMA(according to the article there UDMA will not be on even if win2k says it is but reg hack fixes it). Reboot and try if things run smooth. if all goes well plug in your dvd/cd into your primary ide port. My systems works great now.

system:
Sx830 antec case
kt7 latest bios and 4.24a chipset drivers
athlon700@700(haven't had time to overclock)
ibm deskstar 30 gig(75GXP?)
pioneer dvd rom(slot of course)
AIW radeon
900NF samsung monitor
sound blaster live! value
