New system and all is well until I throw in the sound card. Load drivers and when its finished it hardlocks. I have removed the card driver and uninstall programs and system will startup fine. Reinstall card after deleting software loaded and try to reinstall several times with the same result. I heard of people having problems w/ sblive and kt7, but cant figure this one out. I have tried the card in pci's 4 and 5 with same results both times. Any help would be appreciated.

So the only peripheral card you have installed right now is the AGP video card?
If so, then try the SB Live in every PCI slot. If you have other peripherals, remove them, and see if you can get the SB Live! happy first.

Also, I recall that the newest drivers from CL's website were needed when the new Cumine processors first came out at a certain mhz level. I know you have a Duron, but it is clocked around that high mhz level, so if you don't have the newest drivers from the website, they are definitely worth a try.

I have similar setup, and yes there is an issue with ABITKT7 and SBLive. My SBLive is in the 1st slot above the ISA slot( Hey it's 6:30 and still on 1st cup of coffee :confused;)If you go to ABITs' web site there is note on this problem. Good Luck!

What is this I keep hearing about a problem with the KT7 & SB live value??

Thankfully, I have not been affected by this at all, I did have some problems when I first started up but I took the live out, setup the system fully and then put it in.

I've also heard that people have been having problems with the Elsa Gladiac MX and the KT7, is this true also?

What are the issues here?

Cheers,

Corm

Check out this link, soundcard issues this kind of sums it up.Yes JustStarting, most of it is on the KT7Raid, but it seems like other cards have problems with KT7.I do remember hearing this before.

Have the same problem with Abit SA6R. Could it be RAID? I have tried every possible permutation. Tried Win 98se and Win Me. Re-formatted, everything. Help!

przero - try this sequence:
[*]disable highpoint controller
[*]install sound card drivers
[*]re-enable highpoint controller

read paul's unofficial abit kt7 faq very carefully. click on the "sound cards" link and go to the section titled "Why does my computer hang when my sound card initialises SB16 emulation on my KT7-RAID?". i believe it addresses the problem you're having. the problem most likely "...is due to a conflict between the legacy SB16 emulation (which allows your soundcard to function under old DOS-only games) and the Highpoint controller." so the problem seems to be specific to mobos which have the highpoint controller onboard.

Peace,

Doug

Hello all,
Thanks for all the info and feedback- got some info from creative and the following worked for me:

Note: remove sound card first

1) ensure all sound card drivers are uninstalled and all sblive program folders are deleted
2) install sblive card in pci slot of your choice-4 myself
3) let windows take you through driver installation upon booting up windows
4) insert cd for sblive when prompted during driver install
9) when complete and you get the "you must restart your computer" message- select "no,ill restart later"
6) do a custom install on sblive software- deselcect the dos drivers box under install options- DO NOT RESTART COMPUTER YET
7) go to: my computer=> device manager and find where your sound drivers are
8) find sb16 emulation under sound drivers right click=> properties and check the disable box, and uncheck the box under it (in this hardware profile- or something like that) when you go back to device manager ensure there is a red X over sb16 emulation.
9) restart computer
10) enjoy your sblive

Ha! That doesn't sound like a FIX... Unless if you don't need DOS compatability you could try this. Under PNP configeration in your BIOS you can try to set IRQs up manually changing IRQ 5, 7, or 9 to Legacy ISA. This would allow the SB emulation in DOS to work correctly... assuming that the problem was the motherboard getting confused over the SB emulation.

I've actually had this problem too. Here's what I've found at another forum to solve it.

Do a re-install over your win98 (or what OS are you running?).

Create a startup diskette now.
Boot your PC up with CDRom support.

use this command line.

Setup /p i

This will disable the ACPI and let your soundblaster work correctly.
*I'm not saying this will work for everyone, but it's what I've found in other fourms and it worked for me. If it doesn't work for you, you can still re-install Win98 with just the setup.exe to get everything back.

I hope this helps.

I looked into this further and it seems that the raid controller conflicts with IRQ sharing on pci 5 & 6.

ugh... I had this same problem over the weekend.
The thing that bothers me is, if I specifically say "DO NOT INSTALL DOS DRIVERS", why would it install the sb16 emulator?

I booted in safe mode and uninstalled the drivers. Then rebooted, ran the setup again & before restarting, disabled sb16 emulator in the device manager. That was a little easier than removing the card.

Also, is this a KT7 specific issue?
