Abit KT7 and 8.5x multiplier.

I purchased a Abit KT7 motherboard and 700mhz thunderbird about 6 months ago. I have successfully overclocked it to 935mhz but the multiplier will not go above 8.5x. the computer will hang or drop back to 700 above 8.5x setting. Is there anything I can do to change this??

Thank you for any input,

No. The L1 bridges where connected using cuductive epoxy. The thing works fine at 8.5x110=935mhz. But if I raise it to 9x100=900mhz it boots at 700mhz. If I raise it to 9.5x100=950 it boots at 750mhz anything above that and it will not post.

My KT7 and Duron 600 combo does the same thing. I have run the Duron at speeds up to 986MHz using a 8.5x multiplier with a 116MHz FSB, so I know that the chip is capable of 900MHz+ operation.

If anyone knows how to get around this issue, I would be very appreciative, as it may be the key to getting that last bit out of my chip. ;)

Edit: Additionally, the L1 bridges on my Duron have been connected with solder, so they do not need to be re-drawn or anything. I can select basically any multiplier up to 8.5x, but no higher.

I am glad i am not the only one having this issue. I have seen on many boards that i have to redo the L1 linkages but that is not possible. I have used a fine tip tester and touched the actual L1 pad and have current flow thru them almost no risitance. I used a conductive epoxy type pen and it is connecting all of them.

The bridges are not interconnected accept with the opposite connection. I have reset the bios but not flashed it. At 9x it posts at 700 and 9.5x it posts at 750 and at 10x it posts at 800. Anything above that and it will not even try to post.

Hmm, it appears that there are some differences in our situations now.

Mine will not even post at a multiplier of 9x or greater. It simply gives me nothing; no display, etc. If I attempt a boot at a 9x+ multiplier, I then have to clear the CMOS and do a cold boot to get it to boot up again at all.

My bridges are also not interconnected aside from the respective intended pairs. However, my current concern is that something in the processor was damaged due to the heat involved in actually soldering the bridges.

In any case, the situation really isn't that big of a deal since I am running stable at 980MHz, and I will likely be getting a faster system right before I go back to school in August. Still, there is always that need for power. ;)
