damnit. was waiting on this thing. everyone is showing a mid december eta now (12/14). wtf? ill all for quality control but dont like the wait :( anyone have any alternatives? or a way to get this at around 160$

kt266a
good overclocker
RAID

thats all i want :(
the soyo dragon is looking mighty tempting...just heard it isnt the best for overclocking :(, bummer. an 8kha+ and a raid card is too expensive, and would really like the shuttle ak35r (i think...) but no eta...what to do, what to do.

oh, and newegg changed the price to 185$+10$ shipping, a 24$ increase iirc. goodbye abit. could get a f00kin nforce for that. hell an 8kha+ and a raid card would be about that. but i need 5 pci slots so the 8kha+ isnt a choice :(

"but i need 5 pci slots so the 8kha+ isnt a choice"

So, let me get this right. You don't want the Epox because you need 5 PCI slots and the Epox has 6. The extra slot takes the board out of the running?

woops, i said that wrong, i meant 6 if the board doesnt have raid. so either
5 with raid or
6 without raid

cards are:
sound
2nd video card
nic
modem (hey i still need my internet when the cable goes down)
something else escaping me at the moment...really bugging me that i cant remember.

so that's 5 in there. add a raid card and id need 6, and the 8kha+ only has 5 slots.

and holy sh!t, look there private the damn board has 6 pci slots. why the hell did i think this thing only had 5?????well man that changes everything :) ive been thinking for months now the thing only had 5, w3rd!

still think im gonna go with the soyo. choices choices...thanks for the heads up insane3d!

The Soyo does look nice...no raid though. After getting used to having a raid 0 array, I can't live w/o it. Well, I don't WANT to live w/o it! I'd like to avoid buying a software raid card if I could. I'm going to wait for the KR7AR. I mean, heck, I've waited since July, another month won't kill me. Besides, the price of Athlon XPs will drop a little more by then...hopefully.

people, people, there is a cheaper and better solution over the Kr7, the the shuttle AK31A. The price alone makes a it winner, $80! Its very expandable, 4DIMM, 6PCI.

Well, the Soyo is OK, but it won't overclock too well since the DDR voltage is locked @ 2.5v. Also, the Soyo only has 5 PCI slots, but you won't need a NIC since it has an integrated on on the board. The Epox is a much better choice IMHO than the Soyo, but if you really want onboard RAID you also might want to look at the Asus A7V266-E, as much as it pains me to suggest a Asus board. ;)

"The Soyo does look nice...no raid though."

The Soyo does have RAID via the Promise Lite chip. :)

i really made this thread just for you michaeld ;), one of the folks i know of waiting on this board.

<< The Soyo does look nice...no raid though >>

last time i checked dragon:
Ddr
Raid
Audio
Graphic agp
Overclocking
Nic

:) has a built in promise raid controller. and from what i gather the alpha 8045 fits just fine on it (the original dragon didnt work). looks like this will be the board i order in the next few days.

Oops, my bad. I forgot it had the Promise Lite. The lite does Raid 0 OR 1, but not 0+1, right? Not that we would use a 0+1 four-drive array anyway...not on a software controller....

Yeah, I'm gonna wait on it. I haven't even bought my Athlon XP yet. But I HAVE had my 512megs of Crucial since July! Talk about itchy.....c'mon Abit, give us a break here.

yeah hard to decide. no idea if the asus will fit the 8045 either. id kinda like to have the raid, just to say i do :). i know the epox is the better ocer, but throwing down mo money for a raid card kinda pisses in my post toasties. im indecisive again :(

That IS great news, but $189? No thanks...I'll wait a month until places like Newegg/Mwave have it for $25 less. Great find though! :)

I personally love Abit boards, but would not buy it for $189, especially when it's a month late, and now even more delays. However, if you do wait, you'll know for sure you're getting a quality board.

The Soyo, heard and read alot of good things about it, sounds like a decent board.

I just called Azzo. They're all sold out. And the non-raids are due in "later."

I pre-ordered mine from atacom. I'll just be patient and wait :(

:D Here's something you haven't heard before:
Hey guys, why wait for the KR7 when you can get the Shuttle for less money!

Hmmm... I wonder! :D
The Shuttle is a POS! I didn't need any confirmation of this, but hearing TomsHardware call it dissapointing and lackluster certainly made me feel better. I will continue to wait on my destiny--> the Abit KR7-RAID. The prices will be fine once it actually is available, so dont sh!t your pants quite yet!

Mmmmm... my 1GB of Kingston PC2100 can't wait to get settled into this mobo... and like MichaelD said, the AthlonXPs will only get cheaper... The 1700 is already down to $150! I bet I'll pick this up for $100 a month from now... yipee! :D We can all wait together and provide moral support. :)
