ABIT KR7A-133RAID CPU Support

According to ABIT's Site
AMD SocketA AthlonXP Thoroughbred (0.13 micron process) up to 2000+.
(Here) the KR7A-133Raid motherboard only supports :


AMD SocketA AthlonXP Palomino (0.18 micron process) up to 2100+.

AMD SocketA AthlonXP Thoroughbred (0.13 micron process) up to 2000+.


Why can't it accept newer AthlonXP processors???

Being the owner of this Mobo also, this is a question I would like answered also.

There is a phyisical barrier going above 13.5x multiplier on the KR7A boards. You CAN find a bios that is supose to add support for 2100, and the 2200. but I can verify it dosen't work. Putting a 2200 in mine didn't even generate a post error beep. I got nothing at all on powerup. After a long search I found the info for the bug on various newsgroups, forums, and chat's. For a while Abit was doing a $15.00 plus S&H to fix the problem with a 4 week turnaround... duno if they still are as I bought a new mobo and used the KR7A for one of my kids. The last Abit board BTW, the support just thrilled me...

Found a big thread here on this. Haven't read through it all yet because this thread is the first I've heard of this. I have one of these boards too, on the one hand I'm pissed, on the other I'm sort of relieved I won't be spending the money on the CPU upgrade I was thinking about.

Edit: Long thread short, it looks like it will take a higher CPU, but it requires some bridge cutting/connecting and/or popping modules off the mobo. All the specific info is in there.

I have been following the debate for some time and have noticed that the forum has been updated and it appears that the KR7A-133RAID CAN support 2400 and possibly higher processors.
