Hi all -
I hate to sound like a newbie, but I am a little worried about this mb. I just got it, since my epox 8k7a+ was not acting compatible with my new 1800+ cpu. I redid my comp with the abit board, and after loading windows and a few drivers, my lite on cd-rw drive tray would not stay closed. Right after posting, the drive tray would open. I am guessing one of the drivers caused this, since after my initial windows installation, the drive was fine. Also, the ata133 raid #s seem a little sub par. Does anyone have any thoughts? Maybe I am doing something wrong, driver wise or other. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks everyone

Hi there,
Since you didn't specify a lot of things, I'll start from scratch.

1. Make sure your CDR is on the regular IDE channels. ATAPI devices (CDRs) don't work well, if at all when connected to the Highpoint Controller.

2. Make sure your CDRs jumper is set as Master. Are you using an ATA66 cable to connect it to the mobo? You should be. An ATA66 cable has 80 wires

3. Do you have the Highpoint drivers loaded? In W2K, you load them before the install starts. You hit F6 at the inital startup of install screen.

4. If you have your HD(s) connected to the HPT controller, you have to enable the HPT controller in the bios, else the mobo won't "see it."

Tell me how this info fits your situation so far, and I'll try to help you further.

Sorry to be so vague....
Yes, I have done all of the thigns you suggested.
Config is as follows:
IDE3(highpoint) - maxtor 40gb -master
IDE4(highpoint) - maxtor 40gb -master
IDE1 - 20gb IBM deskstar - master
IDE2 - Lite on 24x cdrw - master
- Pioneer DVD - secondary

Like i said, this is weird since it doesnt appear to be a windows problem, since the tray opens and closes when the ide bus is reset at bios and soon after. Yet, it is even weirder since it worked originally, and then after some drivers, it acted funny. Thanks for the help, please supply more! :)

The pauls faq on via hardware has this note..
<<Possible problem with Lite-On 24*10*40 CDRW that causes the drive to spontaneously open or the light to remain on. Anecdotal evidence suggests that this is due to insufficient power and getting a more powerful PSU resolves the problem. >>

I've seen several posts at amdmb.com that indicate incompatibiolity with KR7A and SOME Lite On cdrw devices.

Seems to be a random thing. One poster tried two Lite Ons - one worked, the other didn't.

Suggest you post your question there, with Lite On version information.

Hope this helps!
