First, I should state that I was having a problem before this one. The reset led on the board would
always come on and I found out by removing stuff that it was my ATI Radeon 8500 AGP card. I replaced
it with a new one and it went away. I was then able to get into the BIOS where I monitored the CPU
temp for about an hour... never went above 36C.
The problem I have now started when I attempted to save and exit. The change I had made was to
set the alarm for the CPU temp to 50C. When I did that the computer seemed like it should of restarted
but it didn't. I managed to get it back when I clear the CMOS and possibly by removed the AGP and putting
it back (doubt it's the second one). Again, went into BIOS and did the same thing. This time, after clearing
CMOS, when I powered up the screen flashed white 3 times, the keyboard led flickered once like they
normally do on boot up and I heard the computer beep once (also normal). But it never posted anything.
I'm thinking it might be the CMOS or BIOS that's defective. There was a message at the bottom of the POST
screen that said something like "CMOS checksum failed". Does anyone know what this mean or what my
computer's problem is?
Thanks,
